Sheila Dikshit holds the distinction of being the only woman chief minister in India who has led her party to three consecutive victories in assembly elections. Dikshit is the longest-serving and second woman chief minister of Delhi. Sheila Dikshit, who represents New Delhi constituency in the legislative assembly, also served as a Union minister during 1986-1989. Dikshit's political acumen is much appreciated because she has managed to defeat the BJP three times in its so-called traditional bastion - a predominantly middle-class, educated and urban Delhi. Over the years, Sheila Dikshit has emerged one of the most powerful chief ministers in the Congress. However, the Commonwealth Games scam has somewhat dented the clean image of Sheila Dikshit. Though born in a non-political family in Punjab, Sheila was married into the family of Umashankar Dikshit, a former governor and Union cabinet minister. Dikshit has two children. Her son, Sandeep Dikshit, is a Congress MP from East Delhi constituency.

I am challenging them to try and spend a single day on Rs 33 if that is what is the benchmark for poverty line. It is yet another cruel joke by this insensitive government. I do not think that anyone in right frame of mind can agree to government's calculation that Rs 33 per day is enough for an individual to live in a city like Delhi
