The Chennai chapter of the Indian Science Congress Association will host a special two-day programme on 'Science for Shaping the Future of India' to mark the association's centenary year. A national symposium on science and technology, panel discussion on scientific issues in TN and a photo expo on 100 years of science in India are planned.

The Orissa high court on Friday dismissed a PIL seeking shift in venue of the 99th Indian science congress from the KIIT University campus in Bhubaneswar on the ground that high tension power line passing through the place could pose threat to the dignitaries. It is being hosted by Manipal University and jointly organised under the auspices of Indian Pharmaceutical Congress Association (IPCA), Indian Pharmaceutical Association (IPA), Indian Hospital Pharmacists Association (IHPA), Indian pharmacy Graduates' Association (IPGA), Association of Pharmaceutical Teachers of India (APTI) and All India Drug Controllers Confederation (AIDCOC).

The congress will focus on increasing productivity and new varieties of seeds. Changing climatic conditions will also be discussed at the congress.

City based college of agriculture will host third National Seed Congress between January 29 and 31. Such symposium is taking place for the first time in Maharashtra state.

A day after Punjab cabinet decided to extend the retirement age to 60 years Congress has strongly opposed it stating that it was a g reat betrayal with 65 lakh unemployed educated youth who are waiting for new job avenues.   While addressing a meeting of party workers at Rihana Jattan Mr. Bajwa said that SAD-BJP was running away from its responsibility and promise of providing suitable jobs to the educated youth else pay the unemployment allowance of Rs.1000 per month.
