Creative Pietro D'Angelo is hooked on an intricate new art form - making massive statues from thousands of paper clips. His unique collection of figures includes a man holding a bouquet of red flowers, a smoker using a pipe and a woman curtseying. Some of the elaborate statues stand at an impressive 6.4ft tall and the artist uses a staggering 12,000 paper clips to complete each one. Mr D'Angelo, from Palermo, Sicily, Italy, spends up to three months hooking the paper clips together. He uses a stainless steel net as a skeleon, from which he hangs thousands of iron paper clips. The artist then starts hooking the paper clips together until he has covered the whole model. It can take him up to 12 weeks to create each figurine. © Pietro D'Angelo / Solent News & Photo Agency UK +44 (0) 2380 458800

PIC BY GEOFF ROBINSON PHOTOGRAPHY 07976 880732. PIC SHOWS JOHN WARD FROM SPALDING,LINCS,WITH THE WORLDS SMALLEST WORKING FIRE ENGINE,A CONVERTED RELIANT ROBIN. A pensioner has built the world's SMALLEST working fire engine - complete with six water cannons, a winched escape ladder and sirens. John Ward has spent four months converting his tiny three-wheeled Robin Reliant into a fire engine, which has a top speed of 60mph and a 50-litre water tank. The vehicle can be driven on the road and features a brass bell, three blue lights, rear red lights, red and yellow reflective strips and fire extinguishers for tackling small blazes. It has two water cannons on the roof, two on the bonnet and two on the back of the car, which are all operated by a button on the dashboard. John, a self-taught engineer, modified the car following radical Government plans to merge fire forces and use retained staff on call at home, instead of full time firemen. "With all these cuts to the fire service I wondered how small you could go and there isn't much smaller than a Robin Reliant, unless you go down to a bike," said Mr Ward, from Spalding, Lincs.
