I am not a Sony owner or fan, I just think this is important for people to know this about Microsoft, especially if they plan on purchasing an Xbox One, complete with the biometric Kinect 2.0.This is not a company to trust or support. They are not the only major company either, Apple, Verizon, Google, and Yahoo, among others have also been implicated by the documents that were leaked by #EdwardSnowden.

http://www.businessweek.com/ar...

http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2013/jun/07/prism-tech-giants-shock-nsa-data-mining

This link below shows the leaked slides themselves:

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/special/politics/prism-collection-documents/

Microsoft has knowingly helped the NSA violate our 4th Amendment Constitutional rights as well as the privacy of international citizens worldwide in the secret PRISM program revealed by whistle blower and international fugitive Edward Snowden.

This link helps demonstrate how closely Microsoft collaborated:

http://m.guardiannews.com/world/2013/jul/11/microsoft-nsa-collaboration-user-data

If you haven?t heard about this you?re a kid or living under a rock. To knowingly support any company that can and will do that to you is insane, and if you?re an American?traitorous to the freedom so many have died to protect. That?s the problem with Microsoft. All this other stuff about the Xbox One is just a side show now, Kinect included. It?s about protecting your rights and not being stupid.

All companies like Google, Verizon, Apple, and Microsoft need to be held accountable for their actions. Some of them may inevitably be so large and we may be currently be so overly-dependent on their products to make a radical change but every person can take steps to give as little of their discretionary income to these companies as possible by boycotting their products which you know you don't need. So before people go trolling on about that idea, I know that of course we can't just quit using computers altogether or cell phones overnight-- that's crazy. That's not what I or any other sensible person is talking about. Xbox One is not a need (really neither is the PS4, but as far as we know so far they didn?t do anything..). By boycotting things that you don't need from the businesses involved with this crime and becoming as independent from their products and services as possible-- you damage them immensely and let your voice be heard at the same time that you won't tolerate this kind of oppression.

The less cash flow these companies get, the more they feel the repercussions of
this kind of criminal activity. At the same time you contribute to competition-- the driving force of everyone's beloved capitalism-- by shrinking these enormous conglomerates and making room for other players, so to speak.

It?s not our fault Microsoft (among other notables) poisoned their own well, but we still don?t have to drink out of it.

This video is really interesting and got me thinking how old were most gamers when they started playing video games?

I'm guessing with each new console generation the age of the "beginner gamer" is getting younger as a whole?

What do you all think? I was 5 when I started playing games properly, played some when I was 4 but 5 was the age I got hooked on games. The four generation, Sega Mega Drive 1991 (UK) that was my Mum's console though, I would often play on the 3rd generation console Sega Master System, purely for alex the kid.

So....according to this video no matter which console you defend, you are psychologically disturbed.

Sounds about right.

You got a point there. I too prefer Mac OS (and own Apple computers and gadgets) but I just can't see it being a reason to hate MS. Just let them be.

btw, im 40 with kids and I still play video games. I started with:

atari 2600, then colecovision, then the vectrex, then the atari 5200, then the NES, then the sega master system, then the genesis, then the supernintendo, then the atari jaguar, then the sega saturn, then the ps1, then the nintendo 64, then the dreamcast, then the ps2, gamecube, xbox, xbox 360, ps3, wii.....all the while playing pc games..(first game were text based...then kings quest..etc...). so yeah, I'm a hardcore gamer. always will be. I was a fan of different consoles over the years.

wow. its funny this "fanboyism" word. When I was a kid, it was atari 2600 vs. intellivision. kids up and down the block would get into fights over which one was better. even on the bus to school, people would fight and scream saying intellivision this and atari that. This was when I was 7 years old because typically adults didnt play video games!!! man, good thing the gamers today are older and don't argue like I did when I was a kid.

one of the best mini series on gamespot, totally true points, I'm getting the xbox mainly because the majority of my friends are getting it and i would prefer to play online with my actual friends than play against complete strangers on the very very slightly superior console (PS4) ( i only say its very very slightly superior because of the way it manages its GDDR5 RAM)

I don't consider myself to be a fanboy of something because no company owns me, I own a product of the company and I'll buy whatever I think is best. I chose the Xbox 360 this generation, didn't have any complaints with it, but I'll join the Sony camp very soon - or again, because before I played on the 360 I owned a PS2 - just because I decided the PS4 is the console I really want, and not the XONE or Wii U or whatever. I'm pretty excited for the PS4, that's for sure...if that makes a fanboy, I'm perfectly fine with it.

@GermanBomber that doesn't sound like fanboy talk. Now if you told XB fans to shove it after all that, then yeah lol

I'll gladly admit I'm a fanboy, and proud of it. Been in love with Playstation since I first played the original and I have never looked back. I tend to get into debates about console stuff because I find debating fun. I have no problem freely admitting that I am a Sony fanboy and will continue to do so until Sony disappoints me, which they have yet to do. Already have my PS4 and a few games pre-ordered and can't wait to get my hands on them this winter. I also don't see an issue with being a fanboy. It means that you have a love for something. That goes for being a fan of anything, really. Sure, there's an issue if you actually have some kind of strong emotional attachment to something like a game console or any inanimate object, really, to the point it gets you depressed when you get disappointed with something. But it seems to me that one could be a fanboy and not get so emotionally attached. I personally find the console wars fun. It's kind of a fun debate/battle of the mind.

@Pierce_Sparrow

Was originally a Nintendo fanboy since the good ol' days of the 80's (NES) and followed with SNES, N64, until I bought a PS1.. ...then when Sony brought the PS2 along, I got that one too.... Later on I got to experience Xbox (the original) at a friends house, and I thought it was cool, but I couldn't afford to buy another console so I decided to wait....Until they released 360. Got it on day 1. Sure it was fun ....until...

the p.o.s 360 RRoD on me.... after barely 10 months from purchase (Way to show "good" quality M$).

Got my PS3 few months later and that was back in august 2008.....soon it'll be 5 years old....and still going strong!

Sony is the way to go for me.

I don't consider myself a "fanboy" unless that means I'm a fan of ALL gaming machines, but in this instance, I simply don't agree with Microsoft's decisions on their hardware policies and will avoid the Xbox One.  This is in spite of the fact I have been heavily invested in the Halo series over the past 12 years and will dearly miss seeing how the franchise develops beyond this point.

I'm not a console fanboy.  I've owned PC's and consoles from all three major companies.  That said, just because one console is superior to the others, doesn't make me a fanboy.  A fanboy is a person who uses inconsistent logic and namecalling, whereas being a loyal customer is just being a loyal customer.

Gamecube was my favorite back then.  Xbox 360 is my favorite now.  And Playstation 4 in my opinion will be the best of the three consoles on the upcoming gen.

Games make me decide what to buy. I always own them all. PS, xbox and Nintendo. Also handhelds. But lately Ive been thinking, I wish there only were 1 console, or even 2. Xbox and PS are very a like, with not that many IPs each, I wish there was just Nintendo and PS like the old days.

Microsoft has done a great job on the entertainment side, server side with their latest $700Million investment in expanding their servers to 300,000. Their controller is improved a lot more as well. Their only downfall is the bundling of Kinect and the greater price-tag.

Sony has also made a great console, but it just doesn't interest me. It's bringing the same things the PS3 did, just improved graphics and a larger controller (which I am not a fan of). However, I do like the exclusives on it. And their approach from the beginning had been nothing but strong.

In Australia, PS+ costs $80, and that is a fixed price which can only be purchased from PSN. Whereas I could buy Xbox Live Gold for $46 from eBay.
Since Xbox One costs $599~$600 and PS4 Costs $549~$550 in Australia... and with their respective costs for online play... I'd end up paying  $16 more for the Xbox for more dedicated servers and the kinect.. which won't be much use to most of us... but they are forcing it on us... and I think they may have good reason.. but who knows.. I personally don't like it.

Interesting insight. As I've said many times I've been a playstation games since 1999, so that is a lot of childhood gone in that. So yeah, maybe I don't like it when SOny drops the ball.

That being said, when I studied a bit of marketing at college I realised the kind of customer I am, can't remember the specific term, but I identified as the "Loyal consumer". Basically, the kind of person who takes a lot of time to trust a brand, but when they do, they don't leave it. It's most likely consumer to still buy products from a brand even when it is going through a rough time, or about to cease to exist.

I'm not like that just for games. I don't buy any non-samsung smartphone, don't buy any non-amd hardware if the choice is there, hell, I don't change the supermarket where I like to go groccery shpping.

The reason is simple, most people can't buy them all, so they get want and try to amass as much support for the system they pick as they can.

Also, its always fun to antagonize other people specially if a company gives the competition enough ammo to fight the World War III.

I love it when common sense can be backed up by scientific investigation. That being said, having said studies replicated with similar/ the same results would be nice.

thing i hate most about fanboys are nintendo fanboys.

they sit back when nintendo offer better graphics and brag (like they did on the cube with RE4 v the ps2 version) then came the wii and it was far inferior to the PS3/360 but then changed, graphics were no longer important.

now the nintendo fanboys are all rejoicing because nintendo has finally caught up and is able to run games that look slightly better than what the PS3/360 has been doing all these years and they're back on the graphics wagon.

it really makes me laugh, during this current gen, they insisted nintendo was best, it was the only system to have the best games, yet we see that the best games winning awards etc are those on the PS3/360.

i cant recall ever seeing a nintendo advert advertising a game for the wii that claimed best game of the year.... in fact i cant really recall ever seeing nintendo games advertised on tv, other than mario/zelda/nintendogs and other console bundled titles, but not many saying that.

so anyways to my point about worse fanboys been nintendo ones is, when the XBX1/PS4 is released and we all know how these 2 systems will leave the wii u eating their dust when it comes to next gen games and engines, the wii u will for now manage slightly revamped last gen/current gen ports, but like the wii, once devs start taking advantage of the XBX1/PS4 hardware, its games engine wont be able to run on the last gen revamp wii u console and will get skipped just like the wii.

but the nintendo fanboys defend and claim this isn't true.... but i love to ask, where are the games then.... wait a sec, they're now getting ported to the wii u.

there's a forum littered with wiitards, maxconsole, if you dont take it up the ar5e from nintendo, or love them blindly the wiitarded dimwitts class you as a sony fanboy pmsl... i mean they forget theres another console out there that also kicks nintendo all over.... the 360 which i also play and enjoy... shame wiitards have less intelligence than a fish.

razorfett147
razorfett147

@Retroboy85 Not to disagree, but Nintendo fanboys are FAR from the worst out there.  They are so few and so muted that they barely make a blip on the fanboy war radar.  There is a breed of fanboy out there that is far and away the loudest, most resilient, most closed-minded, and most obnoxious.  I think anyone with a truly objective perspective and lots of experience hanging out on gaming sites like this one will be able to figure out of whom I speak.

Retroboy85
Retroboy85

@razorfett147 @Retroboy85 naa trust me, check the other post regarding the R4 card, littered with a trolling fanboy insisting he is right, this is the attitude of all wiitards when it comes to making a negative point towards nintendo they kick off.

as the R4 resellers have been sued for damages, which isnt entirely fair because the cartridge doesnt ship with software or roms, therfore is not violating any laws.

nintendo should also cough up some cash to these devs for not blocking the device.

yet the fanboys insist nintendo that did nothing to block the cart have done nothing wrong, but neither has the cart, sure it could allow roms, but it doesnt come with em, its the user that does it.

so leaving your front door open to burglars is your own fault, if you know somethings happening and do nothing.... who is to blame.

but as for fanboys, its not the case, they defend like lemings

@Retroboy85

gamecube was one of my favorite consoles of all time.  which is why it saddened me to see nintendo departure from that with their wii and wii u.  nintendo's lack of online, hardware and third parties is indefensible.

I am unsure of why you posted this, but i have had my fair share of great games on the GCN (which is basically a wii)

Resident Evil remake was amazing, and still is to this day.

Retroboy85

@AMD655 @Retroboy85 resident evil remake is one of the reasons i still own the cube, but in general tho, it did lack games, even worse on the wii and its even more worse on the wii u with devs not supporting and those that are, simply porting last gen games because its cheaper.

I  primarily game on PC, however i started on console when i was 5 years of age over 18 years a go.

Started on Mega Drive (Genesis to you Americans)

I slowly but surely upgraded to better hardware over time.

Mega Drive - Saturn - PS1 - N64 - Dreamcast - PS2 - XBOX- XBOX 360 - PC i have bought consoles after hitting the main platform for power and graphics.

I bought a PS3 and GCN.

I enjoy gaming on all of these systems, as i have favorites on all platforms (besides the 360 and PS3, they are now what my 2 cousins use)

A true gamer will use whatever hardware the games they enjoy are tied to, or make an intelligent decision on which platform they want to choose for a multi-platform game.

For most shooters and multi-platform titles, PC simply blows the other consoles away in almost all areas, save a few due to controls (not often).

I was always amazed by the incremental change in graphics as they advanced through time, it is no different today, but my main weapon of choice is the PC as i now have the ability to game and do a lot of other things that i once could not on a console.

I will always keep my consoles, as they are genuine gems for their time, and i will cherish the memories of great gaming.

This is a post from a PC enthusiast.

I find it funny that, in a thread discussing how a fanboy is made, we get fanboy wars in the comment section.  PC, PS4, Wii U, Xbone, mobile, 3DS, Vita... Fanboys are so entrenched, that they can't stop fanboying to talk about the nature of fanboyism.

Personally, I find it tragic as all hell.  We're already at the point in society where discussing religion, politics or sports without getting into an argument (or even a fistfight), and as the internet brings gamers together, we now see that it's getting to that point with these fucking pieces of electronics.  It's asinine, and game sites are rapidly approaching Youtube levels of unbearable comment sections.

I love PC gaming, and everything that makes it great.  I also love consoles too, started with Colecovision, Atari, and C64.  I don't understand if you love videogames so much, why limit yourself to one platform?   I never understood fanboy wars.  I always wanted everything that played videogames, even them old Tiger lcd handhelds. Football ball with red dots, graphics to die for lol.

I love the exclusives of consoles, the complete control I have in PC, the 1st party games that define the console, and the high framerates of PC.  PC may have the advantages but each console generation has had gems that are must haves.  No company is perfect and they should always be called out when they try to screw over the people who support them.  I have a love hate relationship with Sony ever since they ditched the snes addon but that was Nintendos fault for going with the shitackular CDI and screwing Sony.

I've been a fan of MS since 1987 but the shit they have pulled with Windows 8, ignoring us MS professionals who tested it for 2 years before release, giving feedback about having the touch UI optional for traditional desktops and then trying to take away your consumer rights and making a mandatory Spy cam to play your game console, has really pissed me off.  Doesn't mean I don't want some Xbox one games, Just hate what they are trying to do to my favorite hobby.

Always online DRM is not an advantage for ANY PLATFORM.  I pay for the right to "USE" my copy and nobody is going to stop me.  The only thing the cloud is for on consoles is to control you.  MMO's are not new.   If I want to play MP, I will.  Being told when I can play a SP game is WRONG.  Being streamed something you bought is BS.  If I want to play my games for 50 years, I am.

PC and consoles go hand in hand.  I have loved the hobby for over 3 decades but companies need to listen to what their customers want, deliver unforgettable experiences, and not dictate what they think we should have or not have.

I know I can be an asshole, but I'm an honest asshole.

If this article had talked about a feature or a spec on the new consoles to come fanboys would of went crazy trying to defend or argue something they havent even tried yet. Now thisarticle comes out and all the fan boys go into hiding. This has been possibly one of the best articles gamespot has released in  months.

As an unbiased PC gamer who owns a ps2 ps3, Wii, N64, Genesis, Dreamcast, and 3DS.  I think I can say that you should all save your money and build a pc that you can update every month where as Consoles are only brought out every 4-7 years.  Think about it 10 years from now consoles will probably be superfluous since the manufacturing costs will likely be damn near that of a Gaming Computer that will always have superior graphics. Just look at the infrastructure of the PS4 and XBOX ONE they both use radion Graphics cards that will be out of date by 3 months by PC standards the moment they ship them. Just join the pc master race, it's much easier then you think.
