Dr. Sama S. Banya (PUAWI) Pays Courtesy Call on Ambassador Stevens

One of the few Sierra Leonean octogenarian Politicians Dr. Sama S. Banya (Puawi) and his wife, Mrs. Kadie Banya have on Wednesday June 27, 2013 paid a courtesy call on Ambassador Bockari Kortu Stevens at his 1701 19th Street, NW, Washington, DC chancery.

Speaking on arrival, Dr. Sama Banya said “I am not only here to pay my respect to His Excellency Ambassador Bockari Kortu Stevens, who is accredited to the United States of America as our Ambassador: but I am also here to see you as a long – time friend.

“As a citizen, it is imperative that whenever I travelled to any Country, I should first report my presence to the Sierra Leone Embassy.”

He said, the past eight years had not seen him traveled out of Sierra Leone “so I am here to take some rest.”

Responding, Ambassador Stevens Welcomed Dr. Sama Banya and thanked the octogenarian politician for his time, thought and respect, and further described Dr. Banya as one of our revered citizens of Sierra Leone.

He said Dr. Sama Banya is a senior citizen who had served the West African Country in various capacities.

Also welcoming the Octogenarian politician was the Deputy Chief of Mission Ambassador Ibrahim S. Conteh who described him as a former Chief Diplomat.

Dr. Sama S. Banya served different governments in Sierra Leone in different senior Capacities.

He last served as a Foreign and International Cooperation Minister under former President Ahmad Tejan Kabbah before serving for seven years, as a senior adviser to the President.

Dr Sama S. Banya is an unswerving columnist, who regularly prepares brief essays and commentaries on topical issues and sometimes work as a critic – writing a regular column “Puawi” .
