Gurren Lagann Drama CD Set in Modern School Inspires Manga

Anime's cast re-imagined as students in Japan's Dai-Gurren Academy

The September issue of Monthly Hero's magazine will serialize a new manga based on a drama CD bundled with the Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann anime DVDs. Specifically, it will adapt the Otokoippiki-hen (Lone Man) drama CD.

The story takes the cast of Gainax's robot anime and puts them in modern-day Japan. It follows the adventures of Kamina and other characters who attend Dai-Gurren Academy. Gurren Lagann writer Kazuki Nakashima is credited with the script, and Saki Nonoyama (Enma) is drawing the art.

Gainax's Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann television anime premiered in Japan in 2007. Aniplex USA is releasing the Japanese Blu-ray Disc box set in the United States and Canada on Wednesday. The box set includes three previously released drama CDs (including Lone Man) and one all new drama CD created for the release.

Crunchyroll began streaming the series last month.

The September issue of Monthly Hero's will go on sale on August 1.
