News Detective Conan Manga Gets New Live-Action TV Special

This year's 13th issue of Shogakukan's Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine is announcing on Wednesday that a new live-action television special adaptation of Gosho Aoyama's Detective Conan manga has been green-lit for this spring. The new special will retain the same cast as in last year's live-action special and subsequent series, including Junpei Mizobata (Hana-Kimi, 81diver, Shibatora, High School Debut) in the title role and Shiori Kutsuna (Mei-chan no Shitsuji, Beck, Gota Keshi: Jidan Kōshōnin Shirai Torajirō) as the heroine Ran. Tori Matsuzaka, Rei Okamoto, and Takanori Jinnai will also return as Conan's detective rival Heiji Hattori, Heiji's partner Kazuha Tōyama, and Ran's father Kogorō Mōri, respectively.
The new special is tentatively titled Meitantei Conan Drama Special: Kudō Shinichi Kyoto Shinsengumi Satsujin Jiken (Detective Conan Drama Special: Shinichi Kudō and the Case of the Kyoto Shinsengumi Murder). The original manga follows a brilliant detective trapped in a child's body, but the live-action spinoffs have been set before the manga, when the title character Shinichi "Conan Edogawa" Kudō was still a teenager. In the new special, Shinichi and Heiji compete to solve a murder at a Kyoto film studio.
Before Mizobata played Conan, there were already two previous specials with actor Shun Oguri (Hana Yori Dango, Hana-Kimi) in 2006 and 2007. To celebrate the 800th chapter of the original manga, Weekly Shonen Sunday is running a character popularity poll.
Viz Media will publish the 42nd manga volume under the title Case Closed in North America in April. Funimation released DVDs for the television anime adaptation and some of the anime films.

Sunny is an interesting glimpse into the lives of children who feel that the world has forsaken them and how they manage to cope with the help of an old car and a little imagination.
Ultimately Missions of Love still reads like a sexy book for middle schoolers. Yukina is far from a likeable heroine, neither Shigure nor Akira come off as particularly desirable male leads, and the less savory elements of the story detract from its romance components.
Dengeki Daisy began as a romance with some computer crimes thrown in and has morphed into an action story with some romance thrown in. What remains true, however, is that Kyousuke Motomi has created an interesting, fun story with memorable characters who do their best, whether it's for good or ill.
The addition of a murder-
Strobe Edge continues to be a thoughtful manga about a girl discovering what it means to grow up. Featuring actual nice guys (at least so far), both a heroine and a rival who are sympathetic, and attention to detail, this is a series that romance fans and those borderline sick of romance should enjoy.
Stellvia DVD 6Stellvia is a title that's easy to underestimate, but this particular volume effectively advances the UFO storyline while providing some solid drama and excellent character development. Those who have been following the series so far should find their interest only piqued further.
