News Man Fined 500,000 Yen for Posting Conan, Negima, Songs
posted on 2011-05-23 20:27 EDT
A 48-year-old company employee from Sakai City was fined 500,000 yen (about US$6,000) for using the Share file-sharing software to upload Gosho Aoyama's Detective Conan manga, along with other materials, without the copyright holders' permission. According to the investigation, the man also distributed the Negima manga as well as Momoe Yamaguchi's "Yokosuka Story," "Ano Hi ni Kaeritai," and another song.
Police in Japan had arrested the man along with 17 others on January 12 in a sweep of 50 locations in 23 prefectures nationwide. The Japanese Society for Rights of Authors, Composers and Publishers (JASRAC) expressed their thanks on May 19 to the local police in the prefecture and Sakai City for this first such prosecution in the northern part of Japan.
