Manga in Japan's Shonen Jump mag depicts characters inhaling from cylinder

The Japanese publisher Shueisha has posted an apology for a scene of characters inhaling helium gas directly from a cylinder in the latest installment of Kenta Shinohara's Sket Dance school comedy manga. This year's 42nd issue of Weekly Shonen Jump magazine shipped with the installment on Monday. The apology from Weekly Shonen Jump's editorial staff notes that there is a danger of suffocation from breathing helium.

In the manga's story, several students in a high school form the "Sket Group" to solve any trouble in the student body. The new installment depicts the main male character Bossun inhaling helium to raise the pitch of his voice. After watching Bossun, the main female character Himeko puts her mouth over the helium cylinder's hose to do the same, as Bossun opens the valve. The scene drew complaints from online forums and blogs.
