About OPCW Internships
The Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) is a UN-affiliated organisation located in The Hague in the Netherlands. It is the organisation responsible for the administration of the Chemical Weapons Convention, including verification, inspection, and liaising with member states. It has over five hundred staff from over eighty states and a wide range of employment backgrounds. OPCW is always seeking interns to work within this diverse fabric.
The OPCW’s internship program is aimed at motivated and curious students with an interest in gaining experience in international organisations. The programme provides work placements in the Technical Secretariat for a period of between two and six months. Working within the OPCW as an intern provides valuable experience of a multi-cultural working environment and enables familiarisation with the operational procedures of decision-making at an international level.
Unlike a number of UN programmes, the application process is not limited to graduate students. It is open to those enrolled in both undergraduate and graduate programmes, (or equivalent tertiary institutions.) Students remain eligible to apply for up to 12 months after graduation.

The internship programme is mutually beneficial, with the organisation profiting from the insight and industry of interested students and the intern furthering their education in a practical context. Those branches of the OPCW seeking interns have designated a number of projects for interns to pursue during their time with the organisation, allowing a significant and flexible degree of independence. At the same time, the OPCW recognises that the unfamiliar setting of an international organisation can be an intimidating one, and will ensure that wherever desired, supervision and assistance is readily available.
All OPCW placements are unpaid, with no financial assistance available for accommodation or living costs. Interns are expected to fit in with the normal working pattern of the OPCW which will amount to no more than 40 hours a week.
Prospective applicants are encouraged to explore the internship section of the OPCW website for more detailed information and comprehensive terms & conditions.
