Mr. Attila Zimonyi joined the Technical Secretariat of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) as Director in the Office of Strategy and Policy in February 2013.

He is a career diplomat who has served in a number of important positions in Hungary`s foreign service. He has been Director-General for International Organizations and Human Rights of the MFA (2007-2008 and 2012) and Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York (2008-2012).

He has drawn his multilateral diplomatic expertise in the field of arms control from his work as Deputy Resident Representative to the United Nations Office and other International Organizations at Vienna (2003-2007), Head of the Unit for Disarmament and Non-proliferation of the MFA (1998-2003), Counsellor for Disarmament of the Permanent Mission to the United Nations Office and other International Organizations at Geneva (1994-1998). In those capacities he acted as Member, Deputy Head and Head of Hungarian Delegations to the Conference on Disarmament, the Review Conferences of the Nuclear Non-proliferation Treaty (NPT) and the Biological and Toxin Weapons Convention (BTWC), to the First Committee of the United Nations General Assembly, the policy-making organs of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and the Preparatory Commission for the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO).

Mr. Attila Zimonyi received a Masters degree from the Moscow State Institute of International Relations and a post-graduate diploma from the Diplomatic Academy, Vienna. He speaks English, French, Russian and German.

He is married with two adult children.
