Following years of speculation and a number of recent retailer listings, the long-rumoured sequel to 2008's Mirror's Edge was finally revealed during the publisher's E3 press conference today.

In development at DICE for Xbox One, PS4 and PC, it's powered by Frostbite and is "coming... when it's ready", according to the debut trailer.

The video confirms Faith will return in the sequel, which features the same distinctive art style that appeared in the first game.

In the trailer, Faith is shown engaging in hand-to-hand combat with enemy soldiers who, unlike in the original, seem to be using batons instead of guns.

DICE senior producer Sara Jansson said: "We introduced Mirror's Edge and Faith to gamers five years ago, and we've waited for the right moment to reunite them.

"Thanks to the Frostbite engine and a new generation of platforms, we are now able to deliver a richer world that players will be able to explore with a new level of freedom in both movement and action."
