Kotaku is a video game–focused blog and part of Gawker Media's "Gawker" network of sites. Named in CNET News' Blog 100 in 2006,[1] the site is headed by Stephen Totilo. Alumni of the site include Bungie Studios' Luke Smith, IGN.com's Jim Reilly, FastCompany.com's Adam Barenblat, Wired.com's John Brownlee (writing as Florian Eckhardt), Eliza Gauger and Vox Games' Brian Crecente.

In August 2007, Allure Media launched Kotaku Australia. The site makes use of licensed content from Gawker Media in combination with original stories produced locally.[2] On July 30, 2009, Kotaku Japan was launched by mediagene INC. The site will contain content from Gawker Media translated into Japanese, as well as Japanese-related gaming news.[3] In November 2010 a Brazilian version of Kotaku, Kotaku Brasil (with translated and original content) was launched.[citation needed]
