The Amazing Spider-Man review: untangled web

I would never want to make a superhero game. Take The Amazing Spider-Man, the new Beenox effort based on the upcoming cinematic reboot, for instance. Then you have to design a realistic challenge for a guy who has pretty much always emerged victorious for the past 50 years or so. With its third pass at Spider-Man, Beenox has nailed the simulation part in a way unrivaled since Shaba Games had its shot with Web of Shadows in 2008. But the fun begins to wear a little thin when you realize that in the world of The Amazing Spider-Man, with great power comes a great reason not to work too hard. The Amazing Spider-Man coming to Wii U next spring

The Amazing Spider-Man, Marvel and Beenox's latest entry into the web-slinging franchise, will come to the Wii U next spring with all of the title's DLC and special Gamepad functionality, Marvel announced during its NYCC 2012 panel. The game will feature the expansions that have been released for the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions of the game so far, including the Rhino Challenge Pack, the Oscorp Search and Destroy Pack, the Lizard Rampage Pack, and the delightful Stan Lee Adventure Pack. The title will feature optional motion controls, and will also let the player use the Gamepad's touchscreen to navigate the interface of the Osphone, Amazing Spider-Man's in-game menu which lets the player chart a path through the city using GPS, among other functions. Check out our review of the...

The Amazing Spider-Man may just earn the name

After Spider-Man 3 was panned by film critics and crucified by fans, Sony went back to the start, retelling Spidey's origin story with a completely new director (500 Days of Summer's Marc Webb) and a new lead (Andrew Garfield of The Social Network). It makes sense that studio head Dee Brown was perhaps a little over-enthusiastic as he presented his team's new project. Beenox has something to prove. One of the clearest signs of Beenox's confidence in its nearly-finished product is in the opening minutes of the game's E3 presentation when Brown focuses our attention on a newly-designed camera. It's zoomed in to an almost...
