Resident Evil: Revelations review: secret weapon

Revelations' bloated story carries all the worst tendencies of the Resident Evil franchise Set between the events of Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil 5, Revelations sees original series protagonists Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine working together once again. Now superstar counter-terrorism agents, Jill and Chris find themselves thousands of miles apart but investigating the same incident: an abandoned ship named the Queen Zenobia that may or may not be a secret base for a shady terrorist organization. Things only get more complex (and dumb) from there. Revelations' convoluted plot breathlessly ties together multiple government organizations, a host of absurd twists and secret puppetmasters behind everything — though it's difficult to hate or even care about the...

Japan Review Check: Shin Megami Tensei 4, RE Revelations HD

A quick look at the highlights among the games coming out in Japan this coming week, courtesy the review pages of Famitsu magazine: - Resident Evil: Revelations HD (9/9/10/8, 36 out of 40 points): Famitsu's editors gave the same score to the Wii U, PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of this game, a souped-up port of the 3DS original. "The portable version was pretty," editor Reona Ebihara wrote, "but having this on the big screen results in a totally different experience. Each section is just the right length, making it easy to play. The volume to explore is already beyond what you'd expect from a portable title, and they've now added a new difficulty level for experts to get into. There's also new characters and parts in Raid Mode, too, giving you more to play around with." The review crew...

Resident Evil: Revelations dev diary explains the importance of viruses

Resident Evil's many viruses and infections are "an important and terrifying staple of the series," according to a recent Resident Evil: Revelations developer diary. Director Kazuhisa Inoue explains in the video above that the series uses viruses as a recurring theme because of their commonality. "We can't see viruses but they permeate the air around us," Inoue said. "They're everyday yet scary at the same time. From that starting point, we created Zombie-like creatures, as well as the ‘Ooze,' which are frightening because they originate from something we see in action in our everyday lives." Interface designer Akiko Hashimoto also explains the game's mutating characters. Hashimoto said that these characters inspire fear because they remind players what will happen if a loose virus...
