Two-step verification security is making its way to all of our favorite services, with the latest being Evernote, who has also added two additional measures to keep your account safe.
The Evernote Blog announced Thursday that optional two-step verification has started rolling out, first to paid Premium and Business accounts, but eventually free users will also have the option to do so.
Much in the same way two-step verification protects accounts from Google, Apple and now Twitter, an additional verification code is required anytime a username and password is requested, such as logging into Evernote.com or installing on a new device.
In this case, the six-digit verification code is send to your mobile phone via SMS text message or generated by an app such as Google Authenticator, but Evernote will also provide a set of single-use backup codes, which come in handy for those who are traveling or without access to their smartphone.
Two additional security measures available to all users include new Authorized Applications and Access History sections on Evernote Web. The first shows everywhere you have installed Evernote, with the ability to revoke access for devices you no longer have access to, while the second shows where and when those devices last accessed the service -- a great way to see if any unauthorized logins may be in use.
Two-step verification will be offered to free users in the near future; the company wants to put the feature through its paces with paid users first before rolling it out wide.
