    • Babel Rising should've been named 'Babel Falling,' this trailer suggests
What would life be like if you could fell entire civilizations with a flick of your wrist, crush hordes of men with a downward swat and destroy worlds with a ridiculous, wide-armed downhill skiing motion? You'd either be Lord Voldemort, or you'd be playing Babel Rising on Kinect, like the stylish young man in the video... above.Babel Rising is set to launch in June for PlayStation Move and Xbox 360's Kinect.Babel Rising should've been named 'Babel Falling,' this trailer suggests originally appeared on Joystiq on Tue, 22 May 2012 03:00:00 EST. • Silicon Knights entitled to $1 per claim if it wins court case against Epic Games
Silicon Knights will be entitled to $1 in damages, per claim, if it wins a court case against Epic Games over inadequacies in the support of its Unreal Engine. Silicon Knights first sued Epic in 2007, alleging Epic didn't fulfill the promised delivery time or expectations of Unreal Engine 3, forcing Silicon Knights to ...build its own engine for the production of Too Human.Silicon Knights didn't provide a breakdown of the damages it sought, and the judge assigned his own value of $1 per claim, Polygon reports. If Silicon Knights wins the case, it will be able to appeal how the value was chosen and perhaps raise it to a figure that can't be found on neighborhood lemonade-stand signs. The case is in court this month and is expected to run for another week.Silicon Knights entitled to $1 per claim if it wins court case against Epic Games originally appeared on Joystiq on Tue, 22 May 2012 02:00:00 EST. • Blizzard: Diablo 3 account compromises historically in line with WoW expansions
The Blizzard forums are bursting with stories of Diablo 3 players' gold and items magically disappearing from their accounts, and while we bemoan the losses they're not entirely surprising."Historically, the release of a new game -- such as a World of Warcraft expansion -- will result in an increase in reports of indiv...idual account compromises, and that's exactly what we're seeing now with Diablo 3," Blizzards told Joystiq this evening. "We know how frustrating it can be to become the victim of account theft, and as always, we're dedicated to doing everything we can to help our players keep their Battle.net accounts safe -- and we appreciate everyone who's doing their part to help protect their accounts as well."Continue reading Blizzard: Diablo 3 account compromises historically in line with WoW expansionsBlizzard: Diablo 3 account compromises historically in line with WoW expansions originally appeared on Joystiq on Tue, 22 May 2012 01:00:00 EST. • RI governor confirms 38 Studios layoffs
Rhode Island Governor Lincoln Chafee has confirmed layoffs at 38 Studios. The governor made the statement this evening following a scheduled meeting of the Rhode Island Economic Development Corporation (RIEDC), where about as little happened to resolve 38 Studios' troubled situation as at last Wednesday's "emergency me...eting."On Friday Gov. Chafee held a surprise press conference about 38 Studios, in which he said the government was done providing easy money for the developer, and gave "Project Copernicus" a launch window of June 2013.WPRI reporter Ted Nesi told Joystiq that Gov. Chafee confirmed the layoffs, but was ambiguous about whether employees at the studio were being paid.38 Studios continues to remain silent and has not made any official statement about anything since this whole mess started early last week. According to the AP, 38 Studios founder Curt Schilling brushed past reporters on his way out of the meeting this evening, saying there was "misinformation" he couldn't clear up in a sound bite. Not at all coincidental, Warner Bros. owned Boston-area MMO developer Turbine will hold a recruitment event at the Hotel Providence tomorrow night from 5-9PM. The studio currently has over 50 open positions. We continue to leave the line open if 38 Studios or any employees wish to clear up what's really going on at the developer.RI governor confirms 38 Studios layoffs originally appeared on Joystiq on Mon, 21 May 2012 23:59:00 EST. • Molyneux's Populous rebuilt as Caplin's Reprisal, play God now
The first true god game for PC, Peter Molyneux's Populous, unleashed its fury in 1989. Today, that omniscient rage has been remapped, revamped and softened in designer John Caplin's first title, Reprisal, an homage offering to the deity that is Populous.Reprisal is browser-based and free, playable right here. So far Re...prisal has snagged more than 1 million players, going by the game's Universe Population counter. Maybe give your fingers a good stretch first -- we hear playing god isn't so easy a task.Molyneux's Populous rebuilt as Caplin's Reprisal, play God now originally appeared on Joystiq on Mon, 21 May 2012 23:00:00 EST. • Three more playable characters for new Double Fine game
Double Fine is building up an intriguing cast of characters for its mysterious, bone-themed game. First we had the monk, the hillbilly and the time traveler, and now we have three more random occupations to ponder: the adventurer, the scientist and the knight.Double Fine's Ron Gilbert posted images of each of these cha...racters on his blog, Grumpy Gamer. The only other information gleaned from the reveals appears to be that the knight isn't exactly Sir Bravery, but we could have gotten that from the little shaking knees in his picture.Three more playable characters for new Double Fine game originally appeared on Joystiq on Mon, 21 May 2012 22:00:00 EST. • Retro City Rampage for Vita looks like this
We may not have any idea when to expect Retro City Rampage on the Vita (and various other platforms), but we're starting to see what it'll look like once it's finally done.Potential rampagers need not worry about the Vita's smaller screen size, according to developer Brian Provinciano, as the portable version has been ...outfitted with two different scaling options; one that scales the game to ensure everything is clearly visible, and another that maintains the console version's original 16:9 aspect ration and stylized borders.Touchscreen functionality has also been "tastefully" implemented, but only so far as to aid in navigating menus and during shopping sprees. "If you're an absolute purist," Provinciano adds, "you can still play the game 100% with the buttons." The Vita version also supports "continuous play" with the PS3 version, meaning that saves transfer between the two platforms and both versions share the same universal scoreboard.Additionally, the Vita and PS3 ports will come packed with visual filters that make the game look like various systems of yore, such as the all-red "Virtual Burn" and monochrome "Brick Handheld" settings.Retro City Rampage for Vita looks like this originally appeared on Joystiq on Mon, 21 May 2012 21:15:00 EST. A new Castlevania game will be announced for the 3DS during E3 next month, according to German site n1ntendo, as translated by neoGAF. The project will reportedly be exclusive to Nintendo's handheld and already has Castlevania: Lords of Shadow producer David Cox and director Enric Alvarez attached - according to inform...ation that supposedly comes from a leaked E3 schedule for Konami.Cox did tease that he was spending time "in the land of Dracul" last April, though his Twitter responses to this latest rumor call the idea "misinformed," reiterating that "the truth is ALWAYS better than fiction!"Rumor: New 3DS Castlevania to debut at E3 originally appeared on Joystiq on Mon, 21 May 2012 20:30:00 EST.
