Relive the London 2012 Festival

Libraries across the UK are being sent copies of the London 2012 Festival souvenir picture book which will give people the opportunity to relive some of the highlights of an amazing once in a lifetime festival.

More than 19.5 million people attended 13,006 events across the country from the Shetland Islands to the Scilly Isles, which featured over 25,000 artists from around the world and demonstrated the very best the UK has to offer. The book features 200 images and is arranged in themed sections. Some of the featured highlights are:

  • The official London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic posters
  • BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend in Hackney Marshes
  • BT River of Music
  • World Shakespeare Festival
  • Piccadilly Circus Circus

Five thousand copies of the book were produced and have been distributed to private and public sector partners who helped make it such a huge success, including library authorities who worked on a special summer 2012 programme with the Reading Agency.
Ruth Mackenzie, Director of the London 2012 Festival, said: “I am immensely proud of what was achieved last summer, with millions of people getting the opportunity to see some of the best artists from across the UK and around the world. These books will give people the chance to relive some of the many highlights that helped to make 2012 a truly special year.”
