Blizzard to rework unannounced MMO; release not expected until 2016

Project's status confirmed following layoff claims

Blizzard has confirmed that its unannounced MMO, codenamed Titan, is undergoing "large design and technology changes".

The news follows reports that Blizzard has reduced its Titan team from 100 down to 30 staff, with VentureBeat reporting that the remaining team will reassess the title's development.

Blizzard later confirmed with Polygon that development on the unannounced title has taken a dramatic shift. "We've always had a highly iterative development process, and the unannounced MMO is no exception," a Blizzard representative said.

"We've come to a point where we need to make some large design and technology changes to the game. We're using this opportunity to shift some of our resources to assist with other projects while the core team adapts our technology and tools to accommodate these new changes."

It's been known since 2007 that Blizzard has a new MMO IP in the works, but few details have emerged. Leaked documents from 2010 suggested the title would release in the fourth quarter of 2013.

Blizzard then confirmed later in 2010 that the project titled 'Titan' is a next-gen MMO.

According to the VentureBeat report, Titan is not expected to release until 2016.
