"This year players will become legends"

An advert in today's Metro has seemingly confirmed a 2013 PS4 release date in Europe.

Today's newspaper advert reads: "Now is the time. The world's greatest players are going to entertain, create and amaze on the ultimate stage. This year a new generation will push the boundaries of play and share in moments of wonder. This year players will become legends. PS4. Coming 2013."

In a statement provided to Edge, Sony said today: "We announced at the PlayStation Meeting event on Feb 20th that PS4 would be coming in 2013... the adverts are simply re-stating that message. More information about PS4 and all PlayStation Platforms will be announced at E3."

Sony revealed PS4 in February, when it confirmed a PS4 release date of "holiday 2013" in at least one of Japan, Europe and the US.

CVG recently reported that Sony has determined Europe a high-priority territory in the next generation sales race and will ensure the PS4 launch is not delayed into 2014.

Sony has yet to show off the PS4 console itself, but it recently teased plans to reveal the hardware at E3. Sony's E3 event will kick off at 6pm Pacific on June 10.

Sony Computer Entertainment America recently trademarked Greatness Awaits, which is rumoured to be a marketing slogan for PS4 in the US.

While next-gen console launch dates have yet to be officially confirmed, PS4 looks set to go head-to-head with Microsoft's newly announced Xbox One in 2013. Don Mattrick, president of Microsoft's Interactive Entertainment Business, revealed the company's third console on Tuesday, when he said the system will launch around the world "later this year".
