  • "Our most powerful platform ever [will allow] "worlds to come alive with greater fidelity and intensity than ever before." - SCE President and CEO Andrew House
  • "We wanted to make sure nothing would come between the player, the platform and play. Our main goal was to architect the system so as to support a breadth of experiences." - Mark Cerny, lead PS4 analyst
  • "Our goal is to make the sharing of video on PS4 as popular as the sharing of screenshots is today." - Mark Cerny
  • "The power and capability of the PS4 allows the Watch Dogs team to further push the boundaries of what was previously thought possible in interactive entertainment." - Yves Guillemot, Ubisoft CEO
  • "We are going to marry [the Move controller] with the power of the PlayStation 4, we are going to revolutionise 'making'." - Alex Evans of Media Molecule
  • "This is the quality that we will get in our future games and we know we can go even further. But more important than these technical features, we start to reach a point where you can see very subtle emotions on the face of a character, where you can feel his emotions just from looking at his face, or you can see his soul just from looking into his eyes." - David Cage of Quantic Dream
  • "The story draws parallels to Cold War Berlin, with two factions living side by side divided by a vast wall. This is a story about the loss of home, the search of new home, and the lengths to which people go to defend it." - Guerrilla Games managing director Hermen Hulst on Killzone: Shadow Fall
  • "What we're creating is the fastest, most powerful gaming network in the world." - Dave Perry, Gaikai founder and CEO
  • "At its core it's a game about epiphany, that instantaneous transition of the mind that takes you from confusion to understand. One minute your situation seems impossible, you have no idea what the solution to your problem looks like, the next it's all very clear and you wonder how you couldn't have seen this solution before." - Jonathan Blow on The Witness
  • "Diablo III looks and plays great on the PlayStation. We put a lot of care and thought into the PlayStation version to make sure it would deliver an authentic Diablo gaming experience, and we're really pleased with the results." - Mike Morhaime, CEO and cofounder of Blizzard, on Diablo III

You may want to add the news of Witcher 3 coming to PS4 too.

Overall I was impressed (haven't seen many games running yet outside of compression artifact-O'vision) with what was shown off. Really silly they didn't show the console though, that was dumb.

I think with everyone now using (MS is a given) more standard hardware this gen the future of PC gaming looks bright :)

Looking forward to pre-ordering my ps4. Bought a gaming rig a year ago but haven't really got on that well with it. I'm plagued with issues and nothing seems easy. I got far cry 3 on PC as visually its a gulf apart from console versions. Haven't got anything since, have been turned off by crysis 3's origin requirement. The last PC game I buy will probably be Bioshock Infinity. PC exclusives aren't really my thing - I'm not big on indie games and MMOs. I'd rather have my halo, killzone, gears of war, god of war, uncharted, the last of us, gran turismo, forza and heavy rain. All of which aren't available of PC.

I presume Sony will show off the PS4 at E3, as I presume it's still not final as they only showed the controller last night. Taking a leaf out of Nintendo's book only showing the controller first and then the console later.

    i thought this too

thing is, people uploading videos of them playing games is already massive, so don't know why they even needed to mention screenshots at all

I see the xbots are out in force today. The ps4 well revolutionize gaming, not milk the casuals for all their money like micros**t.

Is it telling at all that none of the news was about 3D gaming :?: I don't even recall the word being mentioned in the presentation...

I preordered mine, they said what I wanted to hear, that'll do me. Good job on the coverage as well CVG, the live stream before the event was really good and I regularly found information here other places had completely lost, there was a lot to talk about I guess.

Personally the only way I will get a PS4 on (or close to launch) would be IF I can get a good deal on my PS3 (trade-in), the PS4 is TOTALLY backwards compatible (at least for PS3 games) and ALL peripherals will work too.

However it looks like it will not fulfil my criteria and so it seems that I will not be getting one (or an xbox 720/durango or whatever they call it!!) unless I win the lottery!

I don't like the look of the controller either but no doubt will feel very similar to the current controller. It will be interesting to see how it all looks when it is released though....

No ps3 disc games will work with it, because of the ps3s programming. Most if not all the games will be available through streaming and digital games may work, but don't expect to be keeping hold of your discs if you're trading in.

Ok, I've never owned a Playstation and I've never really been a fan, but I was amazed with the Sony press conference and boy do I want a PS4! For those who did not watch (or have not watched) the conference in 1080p, go and watch all the game/tech videos right now. Make sure it's 1080p and not 720p. Anyone who is complaining about there not being a graphical step forward between this gen and the next have been mis-informed. It is significant and extremely exciting!

Killzone was a live gameplay demo and looked amazing! Deep Down (Capcom's working title) showed in-game footage that was astounding in places. The Quantic Dream demo was also unbelievable! And, I agree with David Cage. This generation will pull on our heart strings, as graphics and game engines enable characters to express and evoke real emotion. That's what storytelling is all about. That's what makes entertainment entertaining! It's super significant.

Furthermore, I have never seen anything on PC that compares to what I saw from Sony. It seems as though developers are already achieving more on the (closed-platform) PS4 then they are with the PC. It's mind-boggling, it really is.

I have never liked the DualShock controller, but the the new one looks bloody brilliant. In my mind, the touch pad feature is there for one reason, to allow smartphone gaming on the PS4. Sony will develop their own app Store, or mobile games will be playable via GaiKai. Regardless, if you enjoy gaming on your smartphone using the touchscreen, you can now do that on your PS4.

In truth, it was Sony's message that made me believe. Aside from the corporate looking presentation, their focus on games and the way we can interact with one another is exactly what you want to hear. I love the share button. Anyone who enjoys competitive multiplayer will want their best plays saved and then shared amongst the community. Who wouldn't? It's a big plus.

In terms of specs, I don't think the next Xbox will be more powerful. The leaked documents have been very accurate and they say the PS4 will be the beefier console. I'm an Xbox fanboy, but I think the PS4 has me won-over already. I don't see how Microsoft can offer anything better, and you can't trump Sony's promise to gamers.

Like Sony, Microsoft has to put games first and surprise us with a multitude of new and exclusive IPs. Cliffy B has left Epic, so the next-gen Gears of War is no longer guaranteed to be brilliant. That's a big worry for me …

As a last note, I think GTAV will follow the same cross-platform release as Bungie's Destiny and be released on the PS3 and PS4. The screenshots prove this!

Everyone should be excited, and nobody should be complaining. Gaming is moving forward, BIG TIME!

I know they are NOT backwards compatible as it seems Sony may have learnt from their problems with programming for the PS3. I begrudge paying for a new console and controllers on release and you also have limited games available. I still have quite a few PS3 games to complete and have no desire to get rid of them just yet. Much as I love new Technology, I am not in position to be able to purchase a new console without trading in or selling something first.

Whilst I do think a lot of the games are very interesting, only a few actually appeal to my type of gaming preference.

Apart from better looking games, will the PS4 do anything radically different from the PS3? Personally I think I will wait until the price drops a bit and we have a wider range of games (also stand more chance of finding games cheaper too if they have been out a while...)

I'll be getting it day 1, killzone, watchdogs and drive club (so far) as launch titles will see me through a few months until the next lot come out.

I nearly always purchase day 1, £425 for a PS3 on day one might sound like a lot at the time but its better to pay £425 at the start of a 6 year cycle than £200 near the end. i have certainly had my moneys worth out of it.

just need to see what microsoft are bringing, im only getting 1 console this time around as i dont have as much gaming time these days. but it looks like PS4 at the moment, with my £100 currys gift card going towards a Vita when the price comes down will sweeten the deal
