History

The organization formerly known as Austin Game Developers was started sometime during the 90s by Ellen Guon Beeman... possibly as a means of maintaining contact between people who would become ex-employees of Origin. The IGDA did not exist back then. After a long period of inactivity towards the late 90s, the organization was resurrected by Peter Freese, Rafael Brown, Brian Sharp, Michael Agustin, and Ariel Comstock, in 2001, upon which Austin Game Developers became an official local chapter of the IGDA.

In June of 2006, Quoc Tran, Rodney Gibbs, and Mike McShaffry, initiated a major reorganization in which the name was changed to IGDA-Austin and the direction as well as the vision of the organization would be driven by a Board of Directors instead of the volunteer Officers.
