The Queue: The Frenzy of Patch 5.3

Welcome back to The Queue, the daily Q&A column in which the WoW Insider team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft. Matthew Rossi has upgraded his gear and is now waiting for the first night of raiding in 5.3 to discover what got broke.

I have this weird thing where, if I see a lot of people doing something (like heroic scenarios or the new Battlefront: Barrens stuff) I tend to say "Eh, I'll wait until the furor has died down a bit" before I take part as well. So yesterday, I did a fun interview, logged on to upgrade all my gear with the 3000 valor I had saved up, then ran Black Temple for a bit before logging off. I don't know if it's simple obstinacy or simply the knowledge that all of this stuff will be here for at least a couple of months and there's no hurry to see it all right now.

Anyway, on to your questions.

Also, since we're not quoting the Beastie Boys tomorrow's Queue should feature the Sabotage video.

I went with Intergalactic instead.
BaronOfTheLake says:
I'm all for us bringing Garrosh down, and hard. That being said, I'm also all for him being resurrected as Sylvanus' personal play toy. You have the best of both worlds. A chance for us to feel the accomplishment of downing a ruthless tyrant, and an opportunity for him to learn a lesson or five from a very nasty teacher.

Quite frankly, Sylvanas is a thousand times worse than Garrosh in every conceivable way. She's a genocidal maniac who tortures her own allies, deploys the Plague against orders, uses hostages to get her way, and rips families apart by murdering people and then reanimating them as instantly loyal servants (as we see her do on Fenris Isle). For all his flaws, Garrosh isn't nearly so malevolent, he simply cares for orcs first and foremost. Sylvanas' only peer in pure, sadistic evil in Horde history is Gul'dan, frankly. He'd be number one, only because Sylvanas does display some vague concern for the forsaken and their welfare, where Gul'dan would gleefully have shoved every last orc down to infants into a giant woodchipper if there was power in it for him. Garrosh isn't even close to that level of infamy - he's brutal and autocratic, yes, but not an unrelenting monster.

BrettShaffer says:
I sure hope that the Siege of Orgrimmar raid will feature Alliance only and Horde only stories in some areas. If Nazgrim did end up defying Garrosh, someone who's only played Alliance probably wouldn't understand the huge impact on the story and thinking of him as "just another orc" so you would need to have a major Alliance hero fill in. If they were able to do this in the ICC patch, they should do it here too
.

I can understand your point, but I don't know if it's really feasible out of a few encounters. Keep in mind ICC really only had to flip which characters you fought and which boat you used for ICC and had the intro to the Deathbringer Saurfang fight change, they didn't really restructure the entire raid to any significant degree. But we'll know more when the raid actually comes out.

mtdent23 asks:
Q4tQ: I forget... What is the reason that Blizzard gave to get rid of those complete tier sets from Vanilla and BC? Now tiers only give head, shoulders, chest, legs, and hands. Any ideas?

Well, there are a few reasons. Remember, the 8 piece tier sets like the Battlegear of Wrath dropped directly from bosses in MC and BWL, and then the paradigm switched in AQ40 to a pseudo-token system based off of boss drops that could be turned in with other items, a system codified in Naxxramas 40 as well with the Tier 3 sets. Secondly, there were no offsets for any of these sets - there was no DPS Might, Wrath or Dreadnaught's and the AQ pieces were a weird hybrid of DPS and tanking stats. This was the same for other class sets - if you wanted to be a DPS priest or shaman, you were either not wearing your tier or wearing it despite what it was designed for.

When they switched to the token system used in The Burning Crusade it was a lot easier to design five piece sets for various reasons, from the idea of keeping PvP players from getting 4 piece tier bonuses to the fact that designing 8 or 9 piece sets with the three set bonuses each tier set had for every possible offset was a lot of work. The consolidation of tier sets to 5 pieces with 2 and 4 piece bonuses meant more diverse gear could be designed overall.

BrettShaffer (who was apparently on fire yesterday) asks:
I may have missed the story somewhere in regards as why Garrosh is digging a big ol' hole in the Vale. Is this information uncovered in one of the 5.1 or 5.2 daily questline Horde side?

Just run the scenario and all your questions will be answered. I won't spoil it here, but if you must know, I wrote up a review of the scenario that explains it all. This link goes to spoilertown, population whoever clicks it.

Goarther asks:
Are the barrens scenarios specific to the quests only or are they in the regular queue? Can I rerun them?

It's not actually a scenario - As Olivia Grace covered here, the Barrens Battlefield is open world. If you want to participate there's no need to queue for anything.
