Metro: Last Light's 'Mobius' trailer was made by a single artist

A post-release trailer for 4A Games' post-apocalyptic shooter Metro: Last Light was the hard work of a single production artist working on the game. Alexander "Monakh" Bereznyak, originally hired by 4A Games as a capture artist, worked on Last Light as the lead technical artist for the game's production team. All the while throughout the development, though, he was working on a promotional trailer for the game on the side. Titled "Mobius," the trailer is a snapshot glimpse of a single moment in a raging battle as mutated monstrosities flood the tunnels of the metro quarters where survivors eke out a day-to-day existence. In our official Polygon review, we found Metro: Last Light a rewarding experience that made it worth putting up with some nagging technical issues.

Music license expiration means loss of song required for Rock Band 3 Achievement

Harmonix's next quarterly instance of Rock Band music license expiration will make it impossible for players to obtain one Rock Band 3 Achievement as of June 30, the studio announced recently. At the time, only one three-pack of Metallica songs was affected. Harmonix's next update is scheduled for June 30, at which time the Rock Band music library will lose the following seven tracks: Crooked X - "Rock 'n' Roll Dream" Die Toten Hosen - "Hier Kommt Alex" Les Wampas - "Manu Chao" The Material - "Moving to Seattle" Them Terribles - "Bullets & Guns" Tokio Hotel - "Monsoon" V...

TMNT: Out of the Shadows trailer debuts down-to-earth Donatello

The latest trailer for Activision's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows highlights of the skillsets of contemplative and rational technology-tinkerer Donatello. The video, posted above, shows Donatello's impressive ninjitsu skills, using his staff to smash enemies to the ground. Donatello may be the slowest Ninja Turtle when it comes to combat, but he's certainly not the weakest; he is a classic combination of brains and brawn, putting his smarts to use in the workshop beefing up weapons to use on the battlefield. He also has the most reach of the bunch, and can take down multiple enemies by twirling his staff. Previously, Activision shared a trailer featuring nunchuck-wielding Michelangelo. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows, the first of three titles...

Russian hacker creates an unauthorized PC port of The Dishwasher: Vampire Smile, justifies it as a 'restoration of justice'

A Russian hacker who goes by "Barabus" created an unauthorized Windows PC version of Ska Studios' Xbox 360 game The Dishwasher: Vampire Smile and released it last week, characterizing his actions as a "restoration of justice" in a comment on Indie Statik. Ska Studios released the side-scrolling beat-em-up The Dishwasher: Vampire Smile in April 2011 for Xbox Live Arcade. Barabus wrote (via Google Translate) in the GameDev.ru forums that the "authors are not very nice to publish the game exclusively for the Xbox 360, making it impossible for PC gamers to play in such a great game." While acknowledging that piracy "is bad," Barabus denied that his actions constitute piracy because Ska Studios have ignored the PC and that the developers therefore weren't losing money. "On the other...

Remember Me launch trailer lays out the stakes in a world of commodified memories

A trailer out from Capcom marks the launch of Dontnod Entertainment's dystopian action-adventure Remember Me. In the year 2084, memories have become something that can be removed and traded thanks to the Sensen technology that is the sole domain of the monolithic Memorize corporation. Protagonist Nilen awakes to find that her memory is wiped and is informed that she used to be one of the leading revolutionaries against Memorize, but without her memories there's no way to be sure. Polygon's official review of the game found it an ambitious story-driven title with unique mechanics and an enthralling fiction, though the gameplay didn't always live up to the setting of Neo-Paris in the year 2084. Remember Me is out today for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Windows PC.

South Park: The Stick of Truth summons the magic of farts

The transition of Obsidian Entertainment's South Park: The Stick of Truth from failed publisher THQ to its new home at Ubisoft appears to be going smoothly. The side-scrolling role-playing game starring the foul-mouthed kids of South Park is just as crudely hilarious and designed to offend those who find scatalogical jokes distasteful as ever. At a recent hands-off demonstration of The Stick of Truth, Obsidian played through a battle that takes place in South Park Elementary, where humans, elves and goths are waging a grade school war. The player, in his role as the new kid in town โ€” christened "Commander Douchebag" by Cartman, the Grand Wizard of the humans โ€” adventures with South Park's Butters as they navigate through the school. Douchebag and Butters have a deep library of...

Murdered: Soul Suspect trailer sets up a macabre murder mystery

Murdered: Soul Suspect tells the story of detective Rowan O'Connor and his search from the afterlife for the hooded man who killed him, as seen in a new trailer released today by publisher Square Enix. Described as a detective who got his hands dirty and perhaps crossed a few lines in the process, O'Connor is in a fistfight with an unknown suspect in the top floor of a house. In a dreamlike sequence, he finds himself at street level approaching a body in the street, with the hooded figure crouched over it โ€” only to discover that the body is his own, and that the other man pushed him out the house's window. O'Connor makes that discovery when he touches his killer on the shoulder and has a flashback to his own murder. In Murdered: Soul Suspect, which takes place in the famous...

Harmonix makes players musical magicians in Fantasia: Music Evolved

Fantasia: Music Evolved was recently shown at a pre-E3 event where Disney Interactive's executive producer, Chris Nicholls, explained that the game is about putting "the power and magic of music in the player's hands ... so rather than sit quietly in a dark theater and admire the creativity of others, now we allow you to step into Mickey's shoes and learn to wield the power of music." Players take on the role of the sorcerer's apprentice, who has been tasked to perform and transform songs in order to bring life to worlds created by the sorcerer Yen Sid. In one of the levels Polygon played, we were taken under the sea into a quiet and abandoned ocean environment devoid of music. It was our job to unlock musical interactions by using gestures and, in doing so, bring life and music back...

PES 2014 will be powered by Fox Engine

Konami revealed today PES 2014, which will be powered by an enhanced version of Kojima Production's Fox Engine. This next installment in the series will include six new features which work to mimic real-world players, the psychology behind team support, as well as bring other overall improvements to the series. The first, TrueBall Tech, will allow players to trap or knock the ball on a pass using the analog stick, while a barycentric physics system will determine the weight shift of the player along with the height and speed of the pass. According to Konami, the player's body will shape to receive the ball, allowing for it to be chested or nodded past the opposing team. Similarly, the Motion Animation Stability System will bring different animations to the game based on bodily...

Burger King makes sure gamers get their carbs with hands-free burger holder

Earlier this spring Burger King launched a device in Puerto Rico for the intrepid multitaskers: a device that holds a burger so you can eat and do other things at the same time. The device is a feedbag for the modern age, a way to make sure you get the nutrients you need during those marathon gaming sessions. It holds the burger in front of your mouth and frees up your hands to do other things, much the same way a harmonica holder allows a musician to strum and toot simultaneously. The device looks like it could hold other similarly-shaped sandwiches and foods if burgers aren't your thing, but soups and salads may be a little harder to finagle. Although the gamer at the 1:09 mark looks like he's enjoying himself. Check out the music video above, which launched with the device in May,...

Halo 4 multiplayer weapons receive a tune-up, Spartans ten percent faster

Several iconic Halo 4 weapons received a tune-up today as part of the Weapon Tuning Update, along with other Matchmaking updates, according to a post of the Halo Waypoint blog. Weapons affected include the battle rifle, magnum, SAW, suppressor, storm rifle, assault rifle, DMR, light rifle, carbine, and the Mantis and Warthog chain guns. For instance, the battle rifle's rate of fire has been decreased and two bursts of fire followed by a melee will now kill an enemy. The carbine's damage and accuracy has been increased but its red reticule range has been decreased. Additionally, the suppressor is now capable of killing in three less rounds and player speed has been increased by 10 percent for all multiplayer modes and playlists. Matchmaking tweaks include assault rifle load-out in...
