The Knoxville News Sentinel electronic newspaper app lets you read an electronic version of the paper edition on your iPhone or iPad just as it appears in print.

You can flip through pages and skim headlines as you would in the printed edition.

The app also allows you to enlarge type with the tap of a finger, or jump instantly to the conclusion of a story on another page. You can link to websites mentioned in stories with a single touch, or send an email to an address linked from the newspaper.

The electronic newspaper includes videos and photo galleries with some stories. If you missed the paper one day, don’t worry. The app lets you download past editions.

The “Knoxville News Sentinel for the iPad” app, again, available for free, also recently underwent an upgrade. Version 1.1 now includes:

Offline Access — Download the latest articles and galleries to your iPad. This means you can gain access to all sections when you’re offline, including photo galleries.

Search Capability — Now you can you find all the articles you need in seconds. Simply click “Search” in the left navigation, type in the search bar, and you will see a list of related articles.

We are eliminating one app. The Amazon Kindle Reader Edition is no longer available.

Amazon sent subscribers a message Monday letting them know about the final editions and it is no longer offered in the Amazon store.

I don't particularly like the new app although it seems to run okay on my Kindle Fire HD 8.9". I prefer to read the regular Knoxnews website with the Firefox browser.
