We are redesigning our website during spring 2013. The Ministry of the Environment, the Finnish Environment Institute (SYKE) and the Housing Finance and Development Centre of Finland (ARA) will have new home pages. Environmental experts at the Ministry of the Environment, SYKE and centres for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment (ELY centres) will continue to provide information for environment.fi.

PEER News: SYKE’s OpenNESS project organised its kick-off

  PEER Newsletter

The latest newsletter of PEER (Partnership for European Environmental Research) reports on the kick-off of international ecosystem service project that is coordinated by Finnish Environment Institute. Other topics include a new UNEP report on nutrients and their effect on the environment, the climate change in the capital of Chile, and a probable breeding population of wolves in Denmark.

Towards carbon neutral municipalities - HINKU-foorumi

 

The Carbon Neutral Municipalities project brings municipalities, businesses, citizens and experts together to create and carry out solutions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The new forum helps actors by giving practical advise, creating networks and enabling new business solutions.

Watershed simulation and forecasting system (WSFS)

The Finnish Environment Institute has a hydrological watershed model system (WSFS). WSFS is used for flood forecasting, realtime monitoring, nutrient load simulation and climate change research. Forecasts are made on a daily basis for over 500 discharge and water level observation points. Forecasts are used for lake regulation planning, flood damage prevention and as information for the public and authorities.
