AVP dev: 'Graphic violence was necessary'

"Impossible to pay homage without being graphic," says senior producer

Rebellion's new Aliens Vs Predator game is one of the most graphic of late, in an era when videogame violence is regularly under the spotlight (and almost earned itself a ban in Australia). But the bloody spine-ripping scenes of the game were completely necessary, Rebellion has told us.

In an interview with CVG, senior producer Dave Brickley explained why he thinks the recent AVP films failed to impress fans of the original movies: "In spite of drawing on some great source material like the comics, the 1999 game as well as the original films, the AvP movies went for the biggest audience they could find with a lower age rating and that, I think, is what pissed people off the most.

"It's not something we ever even considered for the game, as you can probably tell by some of the kill moves," said Brickley, adding: "It's impossible to pay homage to the material without being so graphic."
