The event will be supported by manufacturers including Audi, BMW, Ford, Honda, Jaguar, KTM, Mercedes-Benz, Tesla and Toyota, who will be displaying a range of old and new vehicles.

Nissan PlayStation GT Academy stars will also be showing off their racing skills with high-speed laps around the famous circuit, which has never featured in a Gran Turismo game.

In a statement sent to CVG, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe president Jim Ryan said "it will be a pleasure to see Yamauchi-san and hear what's next for Gran Turismo."

He said: "The Gran Turismo franchise continues to be extremely important to PlayStation.

"We felt that 15 years of GT was an event worth celebrating along with our colleagues from the Americas, Asia and Japan. We are very grateful to our manufacturer partners for helping us to bring together a fantastic event.

"As well as experiencing the development of the franchise and comparing the virtual and real, it will be a pleasure to see Yamauchi-san and hear what's next for Gran Turismo."

Over the past few months, multiple retailers have begun carrying listings for Gran Turismo 6 ahead of a rumoured release on PlayStation 3.

The original Gran Turismo launched in Japan in December 1997 before releasing globally the following year. Gran Turismo is Sony's best-selling franchise to date, with unit sales of almost 68 million as of November 2012.

Gran Turismo 6 development was confirmed in 2010 when Yamauchi talked openly about the project in an interview.
