The fund, hosted directly through Precursor Games' site, will run for 30 days and seeks $1.5 million. At the time of writing, 581 backers have pledged $37,945.

Shadow of the Eternals is an episodic action/adventure game, with the Pilot Episode slated for release in Q3 2014 on Wii U and PC, the developer revealed today.

CEO Paul Caporicci said, "Precursor Games intends to leave no stone unturned in order to create an unparalleled experience for gamers.

"We have a talented team, incredible technology with CryENGINE and a new business model where we directly integrate the fan base into the development process, allowing for new possibilities and game direction. We are very excited to see where this new direction leads," he added.

Precursor Games, foundued in 2012, is "comprised of veteran game developers with over 20 years of experience," including many who were involved with the original Eternal Darkness, according to the original announcement.

Eternal Darkness producer Dennis Dyack is Chief Creative Officer on the new game, and appears in the video below to present a nine-minute gameplay demonstration of the game, courtesy of IGN.

And below that is a developer diary video introducing the dev team and some of the core concepts of the new game.

I'd have thought PC but only a guess. What makes you thinking it was running on Wii U?

The on-screen button prompts were Wii U buttons.

going to take a hell of a push to reach $1.5m though :?

why don't Nintendo just stump up the cash, $1.5m is nothing to Nintendo.

went in for the $50 package :)

Seems strange that they wouldn't use an established site like Kickstarter or IndieGoGo for their campaign. I'm not going to pledge because I don't want to give them money if they aren't able to raise the amount they need. Too risky.

You get your money back if they don't reach the goal.

I know that Eternal Darkness is Gamecube's baby, but they should release this game for the more popular systems (wink wink) in order to increase their funding chances. If it was on the PS3 / X360 I would donate, but on the Wii U ... meh. Nothing against the console, it's just that Nintendo was never my gaming choice. Its exclusives never really appealed to me, Metroid aside, and that's not a reason to invest on an entire console.

Hope they make it though. Nothing worse in the gaming world than having a great game never seeing the light of day.
