Man Of Steel has already assembled an impressive on-screen ensemble, but Warner may have made one of its most important appointments on the project to date, by drafting in Hans Zimmer to compose the score.
Having long been one of Hollywood’s most prolific composers, Zimmer has become famous for his regular collaborations with Christopher Nolan, most notably on Batman Begins and The Dark Knight.
For anyone doubting just how evocative and atmospheric Zimmer’s Batman creations have been, it’s worth giving the final full trailer for The Dark Knight Rises another look. Just wait for those goosebumps to start kicking in as his score starts to recall those of the previous two films...
Samples of his latest score for Nolan’s final Bat-film were recently released online, and sure enough, they’re just as epic as those that have gone before. His appointment to Man Of Steel probably shouldn’t come as a surprise given Nolan’s involvement as producer, but its an exciting move nevertheless.
Whether or not Zimmer decides to retain any kind of homage to John Williams’ classic theme remains to be seen, but we’re looking forward to something mean and moody to match the film’s dark new take on the Superman logo. Man Of Steel opens in the UK on 14 June 2013.

Always on the cards considering the relationship between Nolan and Zimmer. Personally, it's a composer with absolute balls of titanium willing to take this on as Williams' score is so definitive. It will always be compared, however Zimmer is one of the best in the business so fingers crossed.

There are some things that are just classic about Superman movies.....1) the costume changes i.e. glasses off, shirt ripped open 2) spit curl 3) superman log and cape (underpants can happily go) 4) the relationship between Lois and Clark/Superman and most iconic of all is the Williams theme music on the opening credits. Which was probably the best thing about Bryan Singer's Superman i.e the opening credits to Superman Returns....it gave me goose bumps sitting there in the cinema. Which was also the exact images and music used to round of the final episode and season of Smallville after 10 years!!!! It's like getting someone else to change the James Bond, Star Wars or Indiana Jones theme songs! It's not done!!! A personal plea to Nolan/Zimmer - 'please don't mess with my childhood memories and nostalgia' I hope Hans Zimmer finds a way to keep the Original (at least for the opening credits, closing credits and the first revelation of Superman in full costume) and merge with his own take for the movie. If I sit there next year and hear sometime else other than Williams theme song when the movie starts, it will be the first let down in a movie I have been long anticipating!!!

Hans Zimmer has done some b-e-a-uuutiful scores. I'm not too fussed by this film, but I will definitely be listening to the soundtrack.

Surely this has to be one of the toughest gigs in cinema - competing with one of the definitive movie themes of all time. I personally hope they incorporate the main theme into it in some way (even though i still have my doubts about Snyder diecting the film and am not particularly exicted about it) as its as much a part of the Superman mythos now as anything else. But overall, more than any other superhero, the film needs to have an 'epic' feel about it - the way the original Donner movie did, and this can be achieved with a worthy score. Watching Prometheus, i couldn't thinking that the score in that (in some early parts) would suit the new Superman film perfectly.

Hans Zimmer IMO is the king of movie scores at the moment, his work on Inception was out of this world and he's done amazing things with Batman.
