Exclusive: Die Hard 6 gets a screenwriter and a title

Are you ready for Die Hardest?

After the Russia-based antics of A Good Day To Die Hard, we’ve gleaned some exclusive details about the next installment in the Die Hard franchise.

Die Hard 6 - or Die Hardest, as it’s currently known - is currently at the writing stage, with Brit Ben Trebilcook penning a treatment.

Trebilcook is currently working on Knockout, a videogame-themed actioner set to star real-life martial arts stars. It was on this film that he came into contact with Larry D. Webster, consulting producer on A Good Day To Die Hard.

Through discussions with Webster, Trebilcook landed the Die Hard 6 treatment-writing gig. Details are scarce at the moment, but we know that the story begins in New York, before moving to Tokyo, which will be the predominant location.

As the project’s at the treatment stage, we’ll have to wait to see if this one does progress to production, but Trebilcook thinks his take will please fans. “It is extremely faithful to the franchise and characters and is a natural progression. It's also a very plausible storyline,” he told us.

Clarifying the current status of Die Hard 6, Trebilcook added, "Getting Larry's support was great, but there are many hurdles to leap yet and two of those are called Bruce Willis and [producer] Alex Young. [There's] the possibility producers might go back and find some other source material to base the next one on, like they did with the first and second. Mine though, I feel it could be the Rocky Balboa of the Die Hard franchise."

We’ll report more details on Die Hard 6 as we get 'em…

Oh my god, I have been saying it for years... The last movie of this franchise needs to be called OLD HABITS DIE HARD. How has that idea not being made a reality on this one!

I read recently about how Ben Trebilcook was due to write Die Hard 4 but his script was ultimately rejected due to him being unknown. I hope this is true because he deserves it.

Please let them wait a year and give this to John McTiernan when he's released from jail! And the first one to mention Brett Ratner or the return of John Moore will be thrown out the top of a building. The last word he'll hear will be "Yippi-ki-yay, m**********r"...

The whole point of Die Hard was that Mclane was an average cop using his resourcefulness and wits to outsmart a group of terrorists, it was based on a novel written by a detective (Roderick Thorpe) who was wary of Hollywoods treatment of crime scenes "why is he walking all over the evidence?". Mclane was the antithesis of the muscle-bound one-man-armies that populated the 80s, he bled and cried like anyone else. . Now the character has become a parody , the sort the original worked hard to avoid. These stoopid producers are obviously too docile to understand and only churn out more brain-dead clones that have no bearing on the franchise for younger and younger audiences until it becomes a cartoon series on Nickelodeon. Nothing will change. Its all sh/t, If Trebilcook wants to please fans, it has to be an 18 certificate and Mclane has to be allowed to say his OWN FREEKING CATCHPHRASE. Phew...

I've been hoping for years that Shane Black would write/direct a Die Hard film and with each sequel it seems to be getting less and less likely that he will. I just think that somebody in Hollywood needs to find some balls and bring back the John Mcclane that we all fell in love with - the foul-mouthed little fly-in-the-ointment that reinvented the action hero; a man that was alone a man that was afraid and a man who wasn't seeing diddly squat from anybody else, the guy who was in the wrong place at the wrong time, the guy who brought us the immortal 'Yippee Kai-yay m**********r!'

Great news, about time we brought back the John McClane we all fell in love with from the original. If anyone can do this then Brit writer Ben Trebilcook is the man to do this. His incarnation of Die Hard 4 would have made a much better movie than what we were given! Bring on DIe Hard 6: Die Hardest!

@circuit. Shane Black did practically write a Die Hard film. It's just that they called it The Last Boy Scout instead.
