UPS Singapore Recognised for its Employee Volunteer Mobilisation as it Rounds Up Global Volunteer Month 2011

Singapore, November 03, 2011

A Third of UPS Singapore Employees Mobilised During 2011 Global Volunteer Month

UPS (NYSE: UPS) employees in Singapore were recognized for their volunteer efforts by the National Volunteer & Philanthropy Centre when UPS Singapore was awarded the Corporate Volunteer of the Year Award.

"Picking up the award marks a fitting end to our Global Volunteer Month this year. This year we saw a third of UPS Singapore-based employees and their families volunteer more than 1,500 hours in our annual Global Volunteer Month," said Pete Elroy, Vice President, Human Resources, UPS Asia Pacific Region.

In one of the biggest mobilizations in a single Singapore Global Volunteer Month event, more than 170 employees and their families worked hand in hand with The Nature Society to plant butterfly attracting shrubs at the Nassim Green for the Butterfly Trail @ Orchard.

Other Global Volunteer Month activities in Singapore included:

  • TOUCH Young Arrows – organised outings for needy and disadvantaged children
  • TOUCH Silent Club – organised and played in a Futsal match involving the hearing impaired
  • YWCA – facilitated road safety education for YWCA Kids Club children at the Road Safety Community Park
  • Bishan Home for the Intellectually Disabled – supported their 13th anniversary celebration
  • Waterways Watch Singapore - Riverside Clean-up and Waterways Conservation

"The desire to give back to the community is so strong that every time we conduct recruitment drives for volunteers, we end up with more volunteers than what most of the non-governmental organizations require," said Ingrid Sidiadinoto, Managing Director, UPS Singapore. "Volunteerism and philanthropy has long been a part of our culture. We see the value of community service, both in enhancing lives of individuals and also in developing the leadership talents of our employees."

Along with the employees in Singapore, more than 6,000 UPS Asia Pacific employees and their families contributed to nearly  26,000 volunteer hours with over a quarter devoted to environmental efforts, such as cleaning waterways, coastal cleaning, mountain trail cleaning and tree planting.
