Following numerous leaks, Activision has officially revealed Call of Duty: Ghosts.

This year's entry in the blockbuster FPS series will be made by Infinity Ward and released in November.

It's due to hit Xbox 360, PS3 and PC on November 5, and is also in development for next-generation consoles.

Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg said: "Infinity Ward set the gold standard for first-person action for a generation, and they're going to do it again with Call of Duty: Ghosts.

"Ghosts delivers an all-new story, all-new characters, an all-new Call of Duty world, all powered by a next generation Call of Duty engine, which is a leap forward for the franchise. Infinity Ward is going all-in to create the next generation of Call of Duty worthy of the world's greatest fans."

Infinity Ward executive producer Mark Rubin added: "Everyone was expecting us to make Modern Warfare 4, which would have been the safe thing to do. But we're not resting on our laurels.

"We saw the console transition as the perfect opportunity to start a new chapter for Call of Duty. So we're building a new sub-brand, a new engine, and a lot of new ideas and experiences for our players. We can't wait to share them with our community."

Activision has also released the first Call of Duty: Ghosts trailer, which promises to deliver an exclusive look at the game at the next-gen Xbox reveal event on May 21.

Major retailers are now taking Call of Duty: Ghosts pre-orders.

Even thought I already switched from COD to Battlefield. Since they are having it on the new xbox, are they going to let xbox 360 players play with the new xbox players, or is it going to be only for there console of choice.

Remains to be seen whether the new engine means a new non linear single player game and a more expansive multiplayer mode, or whether it'll be same old same old with better graphics. Not holding my breath on this one after seeing the Battlefield 4 gameplay, but if my old clan mates buy it then I guess I will too.

 it's Infinity Ward, they'll make any excuse not to put it on the Wii U. Wait for Treyarch's COD.

Activision say it's Next generation, and they aren't dating them yet.

I believe it was Sledgehammer not IW who did the MP maps for MW3 until the DLC maps and it showed.

Challenge taken. You are wrong, and I will correct you. This is what you should have written...

All I know is they're using their name. But the only thing this team has released is MW3 and we all know how bad that was... but correct me if I'm wrong.

Writing is for the benefit of the reader – to communicate – so it makes sense that what we write is clear and easy to understand. Badly written, error-filled text makes deciphering the content for readers harder work and that doesn't encourage people to engage in discussion. People prefer to converse with those that communicate clearly. Of course we all make mistakes, no one's perfect, but at the very least you quickly read through your messages before posting and try to correct those little distracting mistakes.

No, just like Xbox / 360, they will be running on different servers and OS's, plus lot's of other technical crap so it's not possible.
