Diablo 3 will not require internet connection on PS3, PS4

Diablo 3 may function on PS3 and PS4 without an online connection, in contrast with its PC and Mac editions.

The news comes via Sony's John Hight. During an interview with GameTrailers, Hight mentioned offline play in a discussion about the game's local co-op mode.

"You can have four people on the same screen - no split-screen, we just zoom the camera out. Or if you're offline..."

While Hight didn't elaborate, the mention of offline play suggests the always-online nature of the PC and Mac versions of Diablo 3 may not apply to the console versions.

Diablo 3 will release on PS3 and PS4. No official release window has been announced.
