Call of Duty: Ghosts 'powered by next-generation engine'

UK retailer Tesco lets slip on more CoD details

UK superstore chain Tesco has once again seemingly prematurely leaked information on the next Call of Duty game.

The game, expected to be titled 'Call of Duty: Ghosts', thanks in part to an earlier Tesco leak, will be "powerd by a new next-generation Call of Duty engine", according to a new listing which cropped up this weekend (pictured right, via AllGamesBeta).

The now-removed product description reads:

"The franchise that has defined a generation of gaming is set to raise the bar once again with the all-new Call of Duty: Ghosts. Published by Activision and developed by Infinity Ward, the studio that created the original Call of Duty and the seminal Call of Duty: Modern Warfare series, Call of Duty: Ghosts ushers in the next generation of the franchise, delivering a riveting all-new gameplay experience built on an entirely new story, setting and cast, all powered by a new next-generation Call of Duty engine."

Activision is yet to confirm platforms for the new game, but the series' typical annual November releases would align this year's game with the launch on Sony and Microsoft's next generation consoles, both of which are expected to go on sale before Christmas.

Earlier last week Tesco posted listings for Xbox 360 and PS3 versions of the unannounced game, complete with box art which appeared to be genuine.

Additionally, a recently leaked photo of an alleged GameStop 'display blueprint' suggests that the retailer will be receiving new promotional materials related to this year's CoD for display on May 1 - hinting at a public reveal on that date.

Since there has been no hint of PS4 mentioned in the various leaks, Next Xbox exclusive perhaps that Microsoft are holding back for their big announcement next month!??

Doubt it would ever be an exclusive.

    DLC timed exclusive maybe

I was thinking timed exclusive but it could be a full exclusive at this stage since There won't be many PS4s sold compared to the current user base for PS3 and 360. Could be a much cheaper option for Microsoft to sway the many COD fans out there! Would be a blow to Sony anyway.

erm.. do you think they make this stuff up? COD publishers will give them the text for the advert. its about time they updated that embarrassingly old engine

    A new Engine? O_O

FIX YOUR ARTICLE! ..... WHAT DO YOU MEAN ITS LEGIT!

CoD using a new Engine ....... O_O I'd never thought I'd see the day. However, it'll only be good for a while. Give it three years and the engine will be stale and the game will still be boring.

nothing, if the only experience i had of buying a game from their online service is anything to go by, charged full price for a hardware / software bundle, sent the software only.

New engine or not this alone will not fix the fundamental flaws with the P2P online MP. It would be more newsworthy if the game had dedicated servers so the lag was on a more level playing field across the board but we know this is never going to happen as it will mean the bank balance will lose a few 0's. Same s**t different skin.

Unless they're just overselling the latest tweaks to the usual engine, perhaps they'll be using the engine RAGE used and I believe The Evil Within is using for current & next gen versions?

Activision are partnered with Sony. So not an exclusive and also this isn't a mistake, Activision have obviously asked Tesco's to do this.

Have I missed something? I thought Activision was partnered with Microsoft (Call of Duty DLC timed exclusives) and EA were partnered with Sony (Battlefield 3 DLC timed exclusives)?

And Activision are now partnered with Sony to give Playstation owners exclusive content for Bungie's Destiny.

And if the news was dedicated servers you would be complaining about the engine. Just get a life, seriously.

New engine should help so long as it's not made in the same way. The current COD engine is based on frame rate, and most aspects of the game are tied into this, e.g weapons fire at a faster rate when the frame rate drops. The engine doesn't try to balance or predict what happens between frames either, which all contributes to exacerbating the lag problems.

Rage used the id Tech 5 engine, which they've said they will share with internal ZeniMax developers (id are owned by ZeniMax) but will not make it available for external licensing. Though they also added that eventually, one day it will be released as open source. And yes, The Evil Within will be using a modified version of id Tech 5. Developer Tango Gameworks is another one of the ZeniMax family.
