Dead Island studio announces 'first-person co-op slasher' Hellraid

Techland game coming to Xbox 360, PS3 and PC this year

Following the release of Dead Island: Riptide, Polish studio Techland has officially announced its next project, Hellraid.

Previously known as Project Hell, the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC title promises to blend "story-driven hack & slash action, shooters and online multiplayer" when it releases later this year.

It's described as a "first-person co-op slasher" featuring a single-player campaign and a co-operative multiplayer component that "pits four players against the denizens of hell - and each other - in a battle for points, rewards and fame".

You can view the first official screenshots and some artwork below, while further game details and a developer blog offering a behind-the-scenes look at the title can be found on its official website.

Should call it Dead Island Infinite.

Wow are the 4 posters above me thinking that no other company re-uses/modifies existing engines for games?

Will keep an eye on this hopefully gameplay will improve a bit from DI.

No just the fact that Dead Island & DI Riptide are basically "first-person co-op slashers" and that Riptide is simply a case of recycling a large amount of materials from their previous game.

I don't get what the problem is, they made some great tech for Dead Island, the slashing and precise decapitation was fun. Of course they're using it again...

Thats not really fair bioshock was an exploration focused survival horror rpg with meaningful game mechancs, bioshock infinite was standard fps with meaningless game mechanics

Wonder if will have the same screen tearing on ps3 version and good awful frame rate, whilst the pc version will have the same lack of improvements and settin options.

Our survey says .... This was the number one answer

Tell that to the ps3 owners who have horrible tearing and frame rates crashing, or the pc owners with almost no options to take advantage of hardware.

The series is also renowned for horrible controls btw.

Me personally I found it Ok in Co op, but nothing more.

Of course not. It's smart to re-purpose tech, it's also fun to joke about.

Meaningless game mechanics? That was the point of the game .

But nah, Infinite was still better ;).

    @kirankara

There's a fun game behind all that crappy tech stuff though, just depends on how much it bothers you as to how much you enjoy it.

There's some decent tearing in Infinite at points but I enjoyed it so much that I couldn't give a toss about the tearing, it only tends to really detract if I'm not enjoying something anyway.

Indeed, just don't have to use the technology to remake same game four times ;)

Reminds me of joke Mark Lamarr made about Jamiriqui on Never Mind the Buzzcocks

"In 1992 Sony signed Jamiroquai for an 8 album deal. They later had to sack their lawyer for not including the phrase '8 different albums' in the deal..."

I only ever played few hrs online co op with a friend, and thought was decent, but didn't blow me away. Better co ops out there from my experience.

Tbh though, I was mainly Criticising the technology. The game itself seems to be relatively marmite. People love or hate it

Renowned? Really? When I played it on the digital control scheme, I never really had any problems. Fighting was damn easy and the controls weren't difficult at all... analog controls, whilst initially harder, meant you could be extremely precise, and really take advantage of the decapitation tech. What about the controls was horrible?

Thing is, I now have no faith in Techland after Riptide. If they'd taken the time to fix the issues with the first one, I'd be happier with them. That they released a re-skinned copy of the original leaves me with no interest in this whatsoever. Devs should be more careful, there are so many games released these days that people like myself will stop bothering with your titles when you insult us like that.

What bugs? Not had any bugs with Riptide so far.
