Beyond: Two Souls campaign lasts 10 hours

David Cage confirms at Tribeca

Quantic Dream's David Cage has revealed the expected play length of Beyond: Two Souls at the Tribeca Film Festival.

Beyond: Two Souls Screenshot
Gamespot reports that Cage confirmed a 10 hour length for the forthcoming Sony exclusive.

Cage also revealed that 75 per cent of those that played Quantic Dream's last effort Heavy Rain completed it, pointing out that typically only 20 per cent of people complete games.

Cage said it's the narrative driven aspects of Heavy Rain that inspired players to complete it. "They wanted to see the end, they wanted to know what would happen next... all this was very important."

A 35-minute Beyond: Two Souls gameplay video was released overnight.

    Not for me thanks.

    Games are about gameplay.

If I wanted a crappy interactive movie, I'd play MGS4.

If it's 10 hours long and that gameplay video was 35 minutes, then this game isnt for me, if thats what the whole game is like.

Not going to slate it though, enough people bought Heavy Rain and want this one to show there's a market for it so enjoy it if you want too.

I played it to see all the endings and to 100%.

Exactly, its not for everyone, but id stop playing games if they were all FPS.

I'll be buying it, be nice to have something different instead of the usual sequels that some folk fap themselves silly over.

A bit of variety in the diet is always nice, I'm currently playing Deadly Premonition Director's Cut and even though it's technically a mess it's the best game I've played in ages.

    Sorry Cage,

If I wanted a movie I'd go and watch a f**king movie a 2 hour movie not a 10 hour movie. I laugh at this game being 10 hours, Skyrim lasts a lot longer in fact I put 100+ hours into that game so far.

Correction its only about 3-4 hours of actuall game play 6-7 hours of cut scenes. Sure it might be nice to have a bit of variety, but still a 10 hour interactive movie with barley any gameplay beyond (see what I did there) pressing a few buttons when QTE's appear on screen.

I'll pass this game if you don't mind.

There are two kinds of people in this forum: Those that dislike the lack of gameplay in this game, and those that are snarky and "clever" towards those that aren't interested in the game. If you don't like the game or if it doesn't appeal to you, fine, state your opinion and move on. If you can't deal with the fact that other people don't share the same opinion as you, there's no need to insult their taste, because that just makes you look like fools. Also, to those people, stop assuming that just because people would rather have more gameplay than graphics and story that they're only interested in FPS games. There are dozens of other genres that offer more gameplay than this game.

Now, onto my personal opinion. I'm sure I'll wind up purchasing the game, as I enjoyed playing through Heavy Rain, although there were several plot holes, weak characters, continuity issues, and predictable twists that made Heavy Rain's story less than amazing.

If Beyond is anything like Heavy Rain, it will be fantastic and a very immersive game, right I said game, because my choices affected the ending more than what GAME of the Year The Walking Dead did, oh and didn't that have QTE's. Funnily enough Beyond doesn't have QTE's I'm led to believe. As for being like a 10 hour movie, is that a bad thing? You always hear people saying that a movie is not a scratch on it's book counterpart, well that pretty much is helped by the fact that you spend longer with the characters and you feel more attached as a result of this, adding to your immersion and enjoyment. So even for a movie/gaming experience that will move me as much as Heavy Rain did, Mr Cage can have my money for Beyond.

Like Evilwaterman said, I don't think Beyond or Heavy Rain's appeal is helped by David Cage's comments.

They would need to have played it for that opinion to be valid then. Must have got advanced copies.

I thoroughly enjoyed Heavy Rain and this looks great, so count me in.

Ten hours is a good length as well for this sort of interactive-movie-type gameplay. Anything more would be too much. I just haven't the time these days.

Mine wasnt an assumption to what people play. This Gen has been heavily FPS biased compared to other genres. The statement I made was I prefer different games and if the FPS bias continues, its a sad day for me.

I like storey telling, music, and graphics, depending on the game, gameplay as well. HR's minor niggle for me was the controls, but I really enjoyed it none the less.

    :?

Thats what previews and gameplay reveals are for. I dont buy every game I want blind, not knowing if I'm going to enjoy it or not. The internet is a great thing.

Like Evilwaterman said, I don't think Beyond or Heavy Rain's appeal is helped by David Cage's comments.

The ones who like the games won't mind Cage's personality and the ones who don't like the games wouldn't have gotten them anyway. All Cage does is make more people aware of the game but he doesn't really change the percent of people who are appealed by this kind of game. Love him, hate him or simply notice him, that's all part of the plan. In a otherwise marketing dysfunctional company like Sony, Cage is a beacon of light.

  21. EvilWaterman on 29 Apr '13 said:

I personally feel that Cage is more on the side of making films interactive rather than making games more like films.

He would be well suited in a job role that creates the interactive extras on a bluray movie

Complaing about a Frenchman's arrogance is like complaining about an Englishman's poor hygiene. Both traits just part of their national identities.

I'm going to eventually buy this, and i want it to do well, but i'm going to be really really really annoyed if the masses hold him up as some f**king visonary or genius. I dont care if the game is great, it looks really good sometines, he's still a disrespectful pretentious prick that is desperate to be acknowledged by the film community.

Absolutely! That's why I said it will be a must for some, but not for me, again this is just going off of the 35 min demo they released.

Dont think ive slated this game, ever on this forum.

I've been umming and ahhing over that for a few days now. Might just pick it up if that's the case.

As for this, well I thought Heavy Rain was alright so I'll probably give it a blast at some point. The Walking Dead wasn't exactly ultra interactive either and everyone loved that so I don't get what the fuss is about really. You either like it or you don't really.

The last french racial stereotype I heard they were both arrogant and unhygenic. Says this Northern Englishman rising from his tin bath in front of the fire, pork pie in one hand and warm ale in the other. I were on me t' feed t' wippet and found your stereotyping appalling lad! Appalling! Now go to the foot of our stairs! :D

Francis York Morgan needs to be heralded as one of the greatest game characters of all time.

Don't think I can sit through another 10 hours of David Cage's self fellatio fun time though.

I loved Heavy Rain but this isn't appealing to me. This game is all about the story, there is very little game play and the story of this game just doesn't interest me.

    Tribeca? Really? Good god!

The ridiculous hate is as ridiculous as some of Cage's statements. I think the reason Walking Dead doesn't get the s**tty comments Cage's games get is because a) it's not a Sony exclusive, and b) it's not made by that prat.

Just cos someone's a prat, doesn't mean they're not making good stuff (although I actually think it's a weakness that the only way to get feeling in to game is to make it an "interacts movie", but horses for courses). Loads of my heroes in music and the like are prats, but I love the stuff they make.

Screw the haters, can't wait for this game personally. I'm more excited about this game than any other apart from GTA 5 this year. Heavy Rain was amazing so I have no doubt this will be just as good, personally think this looks way more interesting than Heavy Rain.

I wonder how many people who cry about the gameplay loved Walking Dead?

The comment above you answered that! Though i'd like to add Beyond aims to be a lot closer to cinema with it's realistic art style, motion capture, famous actors, dickhead creator, and tribecca film festival bulls**t.

I'm excited for the game too because i don't know if i've said this but I REALLY like Ellen Paige. I'm still kind of worried about some of the design decisions...
