Call of Duty: Ghosts listed by Tesco with box art

Infinity Ward seemingly developing this year's series entry

The online arm of retail giant Tesco is carrying Xbox 360 and PS3 product listings for the unannounced but previously rumoured Call of Duty: Ghosts.

According to the listings, the game is being developed by Modern Warfare studio Infinity Ward and is set for release on December 30 (this is likely just a placeholder, as Activision always launches Call of Duty in November).

The publisher wouldn't comment on the Call of Duty: Ghosts product listings when contacted this afternoon.

A supposed advert from US retailer Target posted on the Blu-ray forum (pictured below) also appears to suggest that Call of Duty: Ghosts will be available for pre-order in early May ahead of its release on Tuesday, November 5.

According to rumours that emerged last month via the video posted below, Call of Duty: Ghosts branches out from the Modern Warfare series and will be revealed on or around May 1.

The game is said to be set in the future, but a major plot event forces the characters to use modern day weaponry.

The multiplayer loading screens will reportedly be interactive, with the traditional loading countdowns set to be replaced by mini-games which see player entering maps in different ways, such as rappelling in from a chopper.

Apparently there'll also be changes to player movement, with users able to dash and enter a slide while shooting, which may act as an alternative to Black Ops' dolphin dive. Additionally, it's claimed that players will be able to peek around corners and roll side to side while in a prone position.

The Modern Warfare series' Spec Ops mode will also allegedly be replaced with a new game mode, while developers are said to be planning to introduce more destructible environments and interactive environmental elements.

Activision social media manager Dan Amrich said earlier this month that he expects 2013's entry in the Call of Duty series to be revealed no later than E3 in early June.

Modern Warfare 4 for the PS4 and new Xbox or will this be a cross gen title? Surely there'll be a CoD ready for launch days.

My mouth goes all funny when trying to say Modern Warfare 4. At least it isn't a Driv3r style Modern Fourfare.

This. IW has to offer something new to tempt me, either a big graphical upgrade or a revamped and more open SP campaign.

It will be interestesting to see if this is just for this gen, if not I won't be buying the this gen versions (if it is any good) I must admit another 'stock' MW experience would be a bit lame, there needs to be more stealth for me, not in the purest sense- afterall that ain't COD, but more 'Ghillies in the mist' than the more recent bang bang boom gameplay. Less of a ohh-raa American feel would be nice too though there is fat chance of that happening.

They could at least try and make a decent box art with all the money they make, hasn't been a good one yet.

    Same for me too, man!

It's gone downhill since W@W in my opinion! Thankfully a few friends have seen the light and started playing BF3, it's such a better team game, and overall too.

I never really cared for Modern Warfare 2 or 3, and so I just bought the Treyarch games, because they offer much better experiences than Infinity Ward in my opinion (mostly because 95% of my time spent with the game is in Zombies). I believe, and I think others will agree, that Infinity Ward should include a game mode similar to Zombies that isn't Spec-Ops, which you play through once (MAYBE twice) and never touch again. I haven't made my decision yet, but if this is anything like the heap Modern Warfare 3 was, I'll be passing this year. I'll have Battlefield 4 to fill my FPS needs, anyway.

Looking forward to a next gen CoD, i have got caught up in the negativity about these games over the last couple of years but i'm keeping an open mind this time as they always put out a quality game. I also think there is room for both BF and CoD as they offer different experiences imo.

Unless I get told the MP is awesome in this then i'll be avoiding it. MP has been getting worse and worse since MW2.
At the moment i'm getting BF4 only this year.

Fat Chance? Yes because since it will be cross platform, the maps will NOT be any bigger! Thats what COD needs, Youll still have more run and gun and rampant camping sure.

I gave Black Ops II a chance this year after having not played a COD since MW 1, it was fun for the first 10 hours but then it got really stale and I sold it. Won't be playing another COD for a while.

I don't see how the game can be set in the future if the campaign is focusing on Ghost, as he took one to the knee in MW2. However it may end up playing over two different time lines like Black Ops 2.

(MW3 was set in the year 2014 so technically speaking it was set in the future)

Ghosts, plural, so it could be set on a group called Ghosts, perhaps Ghost of MW2 fame is just one of many.

Or it's just named after a group of soilders known as ghosts. They are basically modern day black ops soilders - ghost soilders are a real thing

So, the first couple of minutes will be in the future. Then a time travel event will occur. Then we will play through MW1/2/3 all over again? YAY.

I would have thought Battlefield 4 would be a timed exclusive to Xbox considering EA has jumped into bed with Microsoft.
