APPLICATION FOR TV STATION LICENCE

The Communications Commission has rejected the sole application for a licence under the Broadcasting Act 1993 (of Tynwald) to run a local television station on the Isle of Man. The applicant has failed to supply the Commission with relevant supporting evidence for the project.

In September 2002, following a public invitation to apply published on 23 July 2002, the Commission had received a single application for a licence from Manx Television Limited, a company formed for the purpose of the application.

Should any other applicant for a licence to provide a local television service for the Island come forward in future, the Commission will consider the proposal on its merits. This could include a further approach from the former applicant or associated entities.
