If you think Edna`s story is amazing,, 3 weaks-ago my dads neighbour basically got a cheque for $5827 workin fourteen hours a week from their apartment and there roomate's step-aunt`s neighbour was doing this for seven months and made more than $5827 in there spare time at their computer. apply the guidelines on this site Big44.com

I see the Amd 7990 winning 6 out of 10 benchmarks against the gtx 690 and 8 out of 10 with gtx titan, so why state this, "If the bundle wasn't included, we'd say you could flip a coin over whether or not to get this card or the GTX 690, but the gaming bundle clearly gives AMD a significant advantage against its competitors."
AMD 7990 is the clear winner.

We say coin flip because the "wins" are still quite close, in both directions.

It would be nice if you could put this card in your "Build the Ultimate AMD Gaming PC", and redo the tests.

avatar

joshnorem

We might just do that. Maybe we can even get two of them :)

It would be nice to see Tomb Raider and Bioshock Infinite as a part of the benchmark results

avatar

joshnorem

We might add those and remove some older games like Metro and Batman actually.

avatar

HiGHRoLLeR038

That'd be nice because Metro get's horrible scores no matter what you have in your system. And Batman is becoming like Dirt3 and Battlefield 3 where the scores are always super high because it's a few years old.
Thanks!

that comparison chart is great! All six of those options are about $1000

the Ares is actually $1500, but is still the clear winner in most of the bechies...

Hey.That_Dude

Nice card. It's a little long for my case but still lookin' good.

avatar

AFDozerman

Okay, good GPUs all around, now let's get something done about those procs

Both companies need to address problems like micro-stutter before introducing new technology or features in the future.

Nice article!

Wow, this is one helluva card. I'm glad to see AMD get back on its feet again. Maybe they can start kicking ass on the CPU side of things, too. I must say, I'm rather perplexed by the placement of the power pins - is it because it's way too long?

avatar

The Mac

probobly due to PCB design, it was cheaper to put them there.

Sigh Catzilla.

Every time that asinine benchmark is run, a kitten dies.

If I could make a suggestion, could y'all wait until it finally leaves beta to use it as a core benchmark? I don't know about you guys, but I've seen serious result changes between versions when my hardware remained the same. Shoot, I see serious differences in the result just running the test a few times.

avatar

joshnorem

It's not a core benchmark, and we're just adding some variety to the numbers. We've got about four other games on the back burner we're testing as well. We also just removed about a half dozen games. Anyway, thanks for the feedback.

PCLinuxguy

can't wait to see the comparisons on MaxPC of this card vs the GTX 690 and GTX Titan cards from nvidia.

avatar

PCLinuxguy

I was meaning a full article of the 7990 vs the 690 or Titan, impressions etc.Not the small section of benchmarks on the bottom of one vs another.

joshnorem

Look up. :D

LOL

umm...they are posted above...

It's great to see this card come out! I'm immensely surprised how well AMD has managed this card. They knew what they had to do and nailed every single aspect of it.

High clock speeds: Check
Manageable thermals: Check
Acoustics: Check
Performance: Hell yes
Game-bundle: Check

And I'm looking forward to upcoming driver releases to see how far AMD can push this bad boy.

This is good, I want one or two, NOT, couldn't afford it right now. But, it is great to see AMD still in the High-end GPU race. Since this card is a late comer, as far as I am concerned, does this mean that there is not a new 8000 series architecture coming soon. What would even be better is to offer the card for 500 dollars without the game bundel, LOL, because I would have to upgrade my case and power supply.Still, you gotta love it.

TommM

What is it about the Metro series that grinds any flavor card to a near halt?

avatar

jimmthang

Metro 2033 just isn't optimized all that well.

avatar

wumpus

Have you run it through FCAT? It seem to be the other half of the question.

avatar

joshnorem

We looked at frame time, see the paragraph above. We haven't developed a way to say "this number encapsulates the entirety of the experience" yet though. That is a bit difficult.

Driver Driver Driver,

Driver dictates performance when hardwares specs are on equal footing. Radeon is always a step behind Nvidia on new drivers optimizing future games and crossfire is even worse in that perspective. I'll run into less troubles on the old and new titles with Nvidia.

j_j_montez

Competition, always a good thing. While this card is far beyond my need or my budget, it's great to see AMD carrying their weight. I don't pledge allegiance to either brand, they both serve their purpose in my home.
Side note, I love how you guys at MaximumPC wasted no time releasing this. Who stayed up till midnight to upload this?

avatar

AFDozerman

Probably had a script set up to release at midnight.

Edit: nevermind.

Depending on the article we either publish it ourselves on the west coast at the appropriate time or have Paul hit the button on the east coast. Since this one was before my bed time I was able to hit "go" on it, though most of the writing was done before-hand.

avatar

HiGHRoLLeR038

It was probably already written and ready to go. They just had to get the green light and hit 'post' haha
