Writing Assignment: The Pokemon Paradigm
Your assignment is to write up an editorial focusing on the palatial Pokemon production. Deadline to have your entries submitted is April 25th, at 12:00pm PST
Need some inspiration? Consider the following topics:
- How do you feel about the Pokemon game franchise at this point? Has its decisions to continue to add more beyond the original 150 been a positive experience, or do you perhaps feel that in this particular case less is more and the ever growing numbers of creatures to catch is bogging down the game?
- If you could revolutionize the franchise by rebooting it, how would you start over? Would you go back to the way things were with Pokemon Red and Blue or would you completely retool the mythos that's been created.
- How do you feel about the current online Pokemon tournaments? Do you feel that this is just another eSport or do you think that this is a great way for players to immerse themselves in PokeCulture?
- Where do you think the game will be in the next three years, how about the next five years?Chalk Talk submissions must include the following:
- Entries must be a minimum of 500 words
- Do not use altered text fonts, colors, and be aware of your formatting.
-Select at least one image to act as your "cover shot".
Submissions are due by April 25th, at 12:00pm PST, please submit as either a link in the comments below or the announcement in the Writers Round Table. -

Writing Assignment - The Perfect Console
Your assignment is to write up your editorial focusing on what would make the perfect game console. Deadline to have your entries submitted is Friday, March 22nd by 2:00 pm PT. This week, your community guest writer is -Saigo-.
As the vibrant dawn of a new age of consoles breaks over the horizon, rumors, specs, and speculations begin to slowly cast their lengthy shadows across the realms of our digital lives. Though information is sparse, and more questions arise daily, gamers have begun scavenging for whispers of truth as old grudges fade into obscurity and new lines are drawn in the forlorn ashes of the fanboy burns and taunts of old.
Yet, imagine if you will, a new age of perfection: One console, pristine and magnificent, destined to rule them all. Imagine a console without fault, glorious in gameplay, with features capable of uniting the world in a utopia of pixelated splendor. Image, if you dare, a console worthy of the gaming gods themselves.
What would this console be called? What features would it include? How would it be played? What games would highlight its release and why would it be successful when others have failed?
If you could design the perfect console for the next generation, how would you do it and why? Be as imaginative, idealistic, or as logical as you please and remember to have fun!
Chalk Talk submissions must include the following:
- Entries must be a minimum of 500 words.
- Do not use altered text fonts, colors, and be aware of your formatting.
- Select at least one image to act as your "cover shot".
Submissions due by March 29th at 12:00pm PT in either the comments below or on the GameSpot Writers Round Table -

Chalk Talk Assignment: Reboots
Your assignment is to write up your editorial focusing on whether or not game reboots are necessary. Deadline to have your entries submitted is Thursday, March 7th by 2:00 pm PT.All entries must either be submitted in this thread here or sent via PM to the Guest Contributor. As you are aware, in 2013 we altered the format of Chalk Talk to include contributing editors, next up in the queue for those interested in the roll of Contributing Editor for Chalk Talk is Asagea_888.The topic is as follows:A lot of notable game franchises are getting the re-boot; eshewing a storied history of a single video game and starting it completely fresh. Devil May Cry, Tomb Raider, Castlevania -- beloved game mainstays are now trying to appeal to a broader audience and, in industry terms, boost its cash flow outside of dedicated fans. Controversy has often swelled as a result of the decision to reboot games -- as hardcore fans feel alienated by the changes made. That said, are game reboots necessary? Can there be a way to keep the integrity of an existing franchise intact and please both fans and newcomers in equal measure? Or are we left with little choice but to compromise the history of an established product to help it stay relevant in today's times? You decide! Choose which games you wish to discuss in your feature as you build your case.Chalk Talk submission must include the following:- Entries must be a minimum of 500 words.- Do not use altered text fonts, colors, and be aware of your formatting.- Select at least one image to act as your "cover shot".- Entries must be submitted by Thursday, March 7th by 2:00 pm PT. -
