Nintendo's Miiverse now viewable from PCs and mobile phones

Web-based app at beta stage; players cannot post messages and manage user lists at the moment.

Players who wish to browse through Nintendo's Miiverse social network outside of the company's consoles can now do so via a web-based app.

Nintendo's social network functions can be viewed on PCs and mobile phones on the following link: miiverse.nintendo.net. The program is currently in a beta state, meaning that players are limited to just browsing on the social network. Users cannot make new posts, send and receive messages or friend requests, and manage their user list on the app at the moment.

Nintendo recently outlined its plan to return the Wii U to profitability on its recent full-year earnings report. For more information, check out GameSpot's coverage.

In my opinion this is one of the best features of the Wii U. There's no point focussing on the singleplayer experience in advertisements when in reality it's all about friends lists and social interactions.

Nice. More useless apps instead of games for the Wii brick. i can't take credit for this thought, but apparently region 4 KUSH is the shizznit! cuz this strategy only makes sense if your high.

Yay a good community accesible to trolls and common douchebags!

oh i take that back, appearently it's only accesible to those who own a Wii U... which i don't understand, as i read in an article only last night, that part of Nintendos plan was to reach out to people through the Miiverse. But if you already own a Wii U, why would i want advertisements trying to tempt me to buy the console... this makes no sense. I guess japanese kush is the shit, 'cause Iwata is some place where no human mind can reach.

@DaneGamer I can say 100% that Japanese kush is in fact the best there is.

You can access it from PC, but why the hell would you want to?

@DarkSaber2k To comment on things? I don't know. Who the hell would use Facebook on PC is the real question.

I tried signing in to give it a wee go on my phone and it said it's only available to people who already own a Wii U.

So, this is basically pointless for anyone other than those people who already own a Wii U first place.

This is just another recent example of Nintendo's slightly useless strategy of only preaching to the choir.

@amaneuvering sorry to break you bubble what can you imagine the hate and troll posts by users who don't have a wii u? seriously....it's not to hard to understand why they did this.

@amaneuvering No this is actually a smart move by Nintendo. If they allowed anyone onto Miiverse then it would turn into what every comment section on any gaming site has turned into, a TROLL PLAZA.

@amaneuvering So Nintendo does something for those of us that bought the system and to have us more connected to each other and you bash them? Thats like complaining that you can't access PSN from Xbox Live...

I think their point is that Nintendo had recently announced that they are going to promote the Wii U through Miiverse to help increase sales. If Nintendo does not allow other non-Wii U owners to check it out via PC then they're right. It is simply Nintendo preaching to the choir. I wouldn't blame them. I would blame Nintendo's poor marketing strategies which has certainly been a major contributor to the Wii U's low sales.

@Forgotten_Taco @RavenSoS @jonzilla_basic @amaneuvering Speaking of moderation, do they literally review every single drawing submitted from the stylus? If the WiiU ever gets a largish install base, they're either going to have to pull the feature; spend more than they make off the thing hiring mods; or accept a Miiverse populated by dirty peach-bowser fanfic

@RavenSoS @jonzilla_basic @amaneuvering I would imagine Nintendo would get loads of trolls if Miiverse was as open as facebook. I personally prefer it this way. Also, Nintendo isn't using miiverse to promote the Wii U to newcomers or those curious, they're using it to promote software to those who already own the console.

In that sense it makes no sense to open it to the public, and I doubt that miiverse will convince many people to buy a $300 machine. Miiverse is nice but its not much more than a highly moderated facebook.

I'm still amazed at some of the artwork people manage to produce on the gamepad in MiiVerse. That stuff alone is a time killer to look through.

Too bad I can't make an ID without having a WiiU. I'd love to get in on the discussions/posts!

Man I wish there existed a social network that catered to all games instead of limiting itself to only Nintendo games. You could even call it something cool like Fuse or something. Ah well I guess no one though of that.

@Sefrix It would just become a war-zone like most other multi-company forums. Do you really want that? LOL

@Zen_Kaizoku Why don't you click the Fuse link below your login name in the upper right-hand corner of Gamespot and find out ;)

@topherlee94 Sorry to hear that happened. It can be rough sometimes with the community. For instance, I know not to post my religious beliefs because of the comments (this is a general internret rule however). Seems the Wii U can get the same reaction -_-

@KBFloYd So there are pros and cons to both ;) Personally I wish it didn't turn away good people. The more good people the better the experience ^.^

@KBFloYd @Sefrix @Zen_Kaizoku No kidding. I went back to see a comment I made earlier about the Wii U and found the board flooded with smack talk goading and overall trolling. I don't expect everyone to agree but.....damn. SMH
