General Dynamics Amphibious Systems in Woodbridge, VA received a $42.9 million cost-reimbursable addition to a previously awarded contract (N67854-01-C-0001) to extend the Expeditionary Fighting Vehicle’s systems development and demonstration (SDD) phase. Full-up system live fire testing will be included. General Dynamics will provide all required materials, services, personnel and facilities to complete the design and development of the EFV, perform studies and analyses, manufacture and test all SDD prototypes, prepare for production, initiate logistics support of the EFV, and successfully complete the SDD phase.

General Dynamics UK Ltd. has signed a EUR 94 million (USD $113.6 million) contract with the Royal Netherlands Navy to supply the Royal Netherlands Marine Corps with the New Integrated Marines Communications and Information System (NIMCIS). General Dynamics UK Limited is the prime systems integrator for NIMCIS, working with a team that includes ITT Defence Limited and Harris Systems Limited.
NIMCIS is a two-year program to replace legacy communications equipment in the Royal Netherlands Marine Corps with the BOWMAN C4I system, which is also being rolled out to the UK Armed Forces in a GBP 1.7 billion contract by General Dynamics UK Limited. NIMCIS will provide the them with a secure voice and data communications infrastructure capable of supporting a range of network-enabled command, control, communications, computing and intelligence systems. Raytheon Technical Services Co., Indianapolis, Ind., is being awarded a not-to-exceed $20 million modification to a previously awarded firm-fixed-price contract (N00019-05-C-0009) for the procurement of six shared reconnaissance pods, six common data link suites, and four data storage cartridges for the F/A-18E/F Super Hornet aircraft. These kinds of systems can be extremely valuable; DID has covered Raytheon’s ATFLIR pods before, and the way they’ve changed F/A-18 operations during Operation Iraqi Freedom.

The AAR-47 is a passive missile approach warning system consisting of four sensor assemblies housed in two or more sensor domes, a central processing unit, and a control indicator. Deployed on helicopters and transport aircraft, the AN/AAR-47 Missile Approach Warning System (MAWS) deals with threat missile approach by detecting radiation associated with the rocket motor, letting the crew know that an attacking missile is coming and which direction it’s coming from, and automatically firing decoy flares. Detection algorithms are used to discriminate against non-approaching radiation sources.

ITT Industries Gilfillan Division in Van Nuys, CA received a not-to-exceed $9.8 million firm-fixed-price, cost-plus-fixed-fee letter contract for the upgrade and refurbishment of two AN/SPS-48E radar systems, plus engineering and maintenance support services, field change kits, technical manual updates, technical documentation, and associated data. Work will be performed in Van Nuys, CA and is expected to be complete by November 2009. The contract was not competitively procured. The Naval Sea Systems Command in Washington, D.C issued the contract (N00024-05-C-4304).
The AN/SPS-48 is a medium-range, three-dimensional (height, range, and bearing) air search radar whose primary function is to provide target position data to a weapon system and a ship command and control system. It is installed on U.S. carriers, LHA and LHD “pocket carrier” amphibious assault ships, and LPD-17 San Antonio Class amphibious transport dock ships. The system provides for detection of targets as high as 100,000 feet and over a distance of 2 to 200 miles.
Small business qualifier National Technologies Associates, Inc. in Alexandria, VA received a $7.8 million modification to a previously awarded time and materials indefinite-delivery/ indefinite-quantity contract (N00421-02-D-3205), exercising an option to support the Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division’s Comptroller in the areas of management studies; program records/library support; operational security program analysis; training systems technology and financial analysis. The contract will include engineering, technical and administrative services, and work will be performed in Patuxent River, MD (90%); Lakehurst, NJ (5%); and St. Inigoes, MD (5%); work is expected to be completed in July 2006.
