Sophie Christiansen became the first British athlete to win three gold medals so far at London 2012 and Natasha Baker smashed the Paralympic record for Individual Freestyle - Grade II 

Lee Pearson, who was expected to break the overall Paralympic record of 11 gold medals, had to settle for a colourful set of gold, silver, and bronze.

A total of 77 horses and 78 riders - two Singapore athletes shared one horse, Avalon - contested 11 medal events over the six days of competition.

Ireland, appearing in their first Paralympics Equestrian events, emerged as fresh talent, winning Team bronze in addition to an individual silver and a Freestyle bronze through Helen Kearney.

Other gold medals went to Belgium's Michele George, Austria's Pepo Puch, Joann Formosa of Australia and Hannelore Brenner of Germany, who won despite suffering a small blackout during her test.

Christiansen, who is 24 and has cerebral palsy, said: 'Sometimes I can get a bit carried away, but I relaxed and gave it everything I could.

'Much of the success is due to the RDA (Riding for the Disabled Association) at the grass-roots level.

'We wouldn't be in the position we are now without the RDA, and I hope it inspires people to take up the sport.

'I knew I could potentially win three gold medals, but I wanted to keep that quiet and then let the results speak for themselves.'
