Eton Manor is the only new permanent London 2012 Paralympic venue. It features nine Wheelchair Tennis competition courts, all designed in a striking blue colour.

During the Games, it will also house temporary training pools for participants in Olympic and Paralympic Aquatics events. It has three 50m pools for swimmers, and smaller pools for synchronised swimmers and Water Polo players.

The design and build

Eton Manor is built on the site of the old Eton Manor Sports Club, established in the 1900s and once an elite sporting association.

After the site had been cleared, it was first used as the temporary home for a practical training centre, known as digger school, which trained people in operating construction machinery. Many of the graduates from the centre went on to get jobs on the Olympic Park.

In 2009, the centre moved to a permanent home near the Royal Docks in east London, so that the site could be prepared for the construction of the new facilities.

Before construction began on site in June 2009, two war memorials were removed so they could be stored safely off site during the building work then returned after the Games.

These were used on Remembrance Day by the Eton Manor Sports Club to pay tribute to club members who fought and died in the First and Second World Wars.

Eton Manor was the last Olympic Park competition venue to be completed when construction finished in February 2012.

After the Games

After the Games, the area will be transformed into sporting facilities for the local community, including a tennis centre with four indoor and six outdoor courts, and a hockey centre, which will use the two hockey pitches relocated from the temporary Riverbank Arena. There will also be space for ten five-a-side football pitches to be added in the future.

The two war memorials are being restored and will be reinstalled at Eton Manor in the public plaza and garden area in front of the new sports centre.
