The Sacred Music Program, Los Angeles

Special courses are offered for synagogue professionals, organists, and choir directors dealing with the various literatures and background of synagogue music. This cantorial school program is supplemented by courses in education and Judaic Studies, plus in-service training.

Sacred Music 236A
Cantorial Workshop (Reform). Musical literature of the Reform Movement. Emphasizes Sabbath evening and morning services.

Sacred Music 236B
Cantorial Workshop (Traditional). Demonstration and practice in Nusach Tefilah: Kabbalat Shabbat, and Sabbath morning.

Sacred Music 236C
Cantorial Workshop (Traditional). The Kabbalat Shabbat, Sabbath morning, and Three Festivals, on an advanced level.

Sacred Music 236D
Cantorial Workshop (Traditional). Nusach Tefilah, starting with Selichot, Rosh Hashanah, and Yom Kippur.

Sacred Music 236E
Reading of the Pentateuch and selections from the Prophets for the Sabbath, Holy Days, and the various Megillot, according to the taame ha mikra in the Ashkenazic tradition.

Sacred Music 236F
Advanced Cantorial Workshop (Reform). A continuation of Sacred Music 236A, dealing with the material for the Three Festivals and High Holy Days.

Liturgical Music 506
Sabbath and holiday music related to the liturgical calendar. Open to full-time students only.
