Required Information

To be considered for a free, perpetual sublicense to use the "Linux" trademark in commerce, you will need to provide the following information to LMI:

  • Contact information.
  • A trademark which includes the word "Linux" combined with some other element or word(s).
  • If the mark is to be used in connection with goods, you will need to provide a full description of the goods.
  • If the mark is to be used in connection with services, you will need to provide a full description of the services.

If you have not already done so, please review the Linux Sublicense Agreement prior to filling out this application. On the following pages, required fields are marked with an asterisk ('*'). All other fields are optional. You will need to submit a separate application for each trademark you wish to sublicense.

5. Goods and Services
Common goods include distributions of Linux-based software, and hardware or devices on which Linux-based software is loaded. Common services include consulting in the use and deployment of Linux-based goods, publishing in the field of Linux-based programming, or organizations devoted to enhancing the use and development of Linux-based software (LUGs).

Description of the Goods
You indicated that your mark will be used in connection with goods. The goods must be Linux-based. Linux-based goods are computer systems and software using, incorporating or derived from any version of the Linux kernel as posted by Mr. Torvalds (or his authorized designee or successor) at www.kernel.org.

Examples:

  • Distribution of software that is Linux-based.
  • Distribution of embedded computer software based upon Linux for a cell phone.

Please fully describe the goods you will be using the mark to provide, sell or distribute, with or without a fee. If your mark is being used for goods that are Linux-based, remember to include that information within the following description.
