TMNT: Out of the Shadows trailer introduces party dude Michelangelo

A new trailer for Activision's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows focuses on the combat abilities of nunchuck-wielding Michelangelo. As the classic Ninja Turtles theme song tells us, Michelangelo is a "party dude," and his style of fighting seems appropriately irreverent, incorporating breakdance maneuvers. At one point, he distracts a foe with his nunchucks before kicking them in the groin. Out of the Shadows is the first of three titles from the Activision/Nickelodeon agreement announced earlier this year. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows is scheduled to hit PlayStation Network, Xbox Live Arcade and Steam this summer.

Metro: Last Light survival guide teaches rangers about weapons and gear

The third and final "Ranger Survival Guide" trailer for Metro: Last Light is all about the tools would-be adventurers possess for survival and combat. Two of the most precious resources available to prospective rangers are air and light. The air on the surface and in the transition zones is still toxic as a result of nuclear war, so venturing forth without a gas mask is fatal. Even then, filters only last a limited amount of time before they must be replaced. A lack of light in the metro tunnels is less immediately lethal, but it is still a crucial resource that must be expended with care. The ranger's watch also serves as an indicator of whether a player is concealed in shadow or in enough light to be exposed, so players will need to keep an eye on it. Intact pre-war weapons are a...

Killzone: Shadow Fall dev demoes lighting technology

Killzone: Shadow Fall is set to be a PlayStation 4 launch title, and developer Guerrilla Games recently demonstrated how it is taking advantage of the console's hardware capabilities for more realistic lighting, in a video captured by the Polish site GRY-Online. Guerrilla is using a post-processing technique called image-based lighting, explained senior tech programmer Michal Drobot. Image-based lighting projects real-world illumination into a digital environment so it can be used to simulate lighting. But Drobot showed a scene lit with that technique and pointed out, "The whole scene is still lacking environmental reflections." He then went through a number of rendering passes that the developers put together in order to create the proper reflections. Special care was taken to ensure...

Splinter Cell's popularity is held back by its complexity, says Ubisoft Toronto boss

Ubisoft's Splinter Cell series isn't as popular as it could be because of its unforgiving complexity, according to Ubisoft Toronto managing director Jade Raymond. In an interview with Eurogamer, Raymond, who is in charge of the studio that is developing Splinter Cell: Blacklist, said the series has been held back because "it's still one of the more complex and difficult games to play. "Even though we do have core fans who are like, 'Oh, I want to have more of this experience,' when you play any other game that has stealth elements, they're a lot more forgiving than Splinter Cell," she said. Raymond said Splinter Cell "really is a thinking game," where players have to take time to plan out what they do. Where other games allow players to get away with improvising, Splinter Cell...

Star Trek: The Video Game launch trailer sets the Enterprise against evil lizard aliens

A new trailer from Namco Bandai is out to celebrate the launch of Star Trek: The Video Game, laying out the story and what's at stake. The Federation has invented a new wonder device called the Helios machine to help rebuild the devastated world of New Vulcan. However, a new alien race of humanoid lizard-men called the Gorn shows up and tries to take control of the Helios machine for their own ends. Captain Kirk and the crew of the Enterprise can't let that happen, which is where the player comes in. The Gorn showed up in the classic 1960s original Star Trek series, though their appearance then was slightly different — a fact that the game's marketing has poked fun at. Star Trek: The Video Game is out today for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Windows PC.

Skullgirls developer Lab Zero Games was unable to pay employees over the weekend due to Paypal freezing the company's account, according to posts from CEO Peter Bartholow on NeoGAF. "Paypal's freeze on our account is making it so that I can't pay people today," he wrote. "I sent them all the documentation they asked for last night, hoping it would be resolved today, but didn't hear anything back," he added. "I also immediately filed a complaint with the [Consumer Financial Protection Bureau] because this whole thing seems decidedly non-kosher." Bartholow wrote that...

A multiplatform title, listed as Endless Summer from Bethesda, was rated by Australia's Classification Board recently, according to a listing on the Board's website. The Endless Summer listing, which is marked as "modified," carries an MA15+ rating with a warning of "Strong horror themes and violence." Kotaku Australia notes that publishers often use codenames when publishing games. Bethesda are not commenting on Endless Summer. Earlier this month, Bethesda's vice president, Peter Hines, said that the company aims to make "considerably more noise" in 2013 "as a publisher." Last week, Bethesda revealed The Evil Within, the first title by Shinji Mikami's studio Tango Gameworks. The survival horror game is coming to the PlayStation 3, Windows PC, Xbox 360 and "next generation consoles"...

Lords of the Fallen will feature advanced combat and Borderlands-like skill trees

CI Games' Lords of the Fallen is a difficult action role-playing game with Borderlands-like skill trees and character development, executive producer Tomasz Gop said in an interview with Eurogamer. "It's a challenging game, action RPG, which means a lot of advanced combat," he told Eurogamer. "When you walk through a location, and you have to fight 10 enemies, that takes around an hour. "When you fight in Mortal Kombat, when you fight in Tekken, that's why it takes so long — Dark Souls is probably a strong reference as well," he said. But he went on to explain that have also incorporated skill trees and classes, inspired by Borderlands.
