The v1.03 patch for "Combat Mission Afghanistan" has been released today. It includes a number of fixes to user reported issues and other improvements, such as:

NEW v1.03 GAME FEATURES

  • Flashes of light, at night, look better.
  • Camera movement and zooming keys are smoother.
  • Corrected an embarking problem with the BMP-1D.
  • Corrected a problem that didn't halt projectiles bouncing on top of walls.
  • Numerous small fixes and stability improvements.

ImageThe v1.02 patch for "Combat Mission Afghanistan" has been released today. It includes a number of fixes to user reported issues, TO&E corrections and other improvements, such as:

  • All BMP, BMD, and BTR series vehicles have infantry firing ports (previously only the BMP-1D did).
  • ImageTeam weapons that are not deployed, and cannot be fired in that state, show a "Not Deployed" message over the weapon silhouette in the user interface.
  • Sounds for armor penetrations and ricochets by large projectiles are louder.
  • Weapons fired at pickup trucks (aka "technicals") aim better.
  • Building collapse sounds are quieter at a distance.
  • RPG-16 has increased muzzle velocity and max range (500m).
  • Updated RPG-16 rocket model.
  • Updated the TO&E for Soviet Airborne Recon Company
  • Various TO&E improvements as suggested by players, in particular BMPs and BTRs being available for Airborne forces.

Combat Mission Afghanistan covers two periods of the Russian-Afghan wars - the initial phase 1980-1982, and the later years of highest activity 1985-1987 - in two campaigns and additionally ten standalone missions. The fully featured editor will of course allow players to create all new custom maps and missions.

Players are able to take command of Soviet or DRA (Democratic Republic of Afghanistan) Army units as well as mujahedeen guerrilla forces.

But it doesn't end there. CM Afghanistan introduces completely new features to the series, such as:

  • Drozd Active Defense system (on T-55AD and T-62D; shoots down incoming RPGs)
  • Multi-barreled rapid-fire cannon (e.g. ZSU-23 Shilka, Kamaz ZU-23)
  • New terrain such as Snow (on the ground) and Water
  • Exit Zones (a new type of objective)

ImageCombat Mission Afghanistan is just around the corner (the original Russian street date was September 10th, and the international english language release by www.battlefront.com is scheduled for the coming week), and we are releasing today six (!) video trailers from this entirely new standalone title, covering the Russian-Afghan war of the 1980's.

From the highly intense urban battles through gritty mountain combat against the Mujahedeen to lethal armor engagements between the Red and D.R.A. Armies, the videos showcase the many facets of this exciting new title in the Combat Mission series of modern warfare simulations.

Combat Mission Afghanistan release in Russia PDF Print E-mail

Russian companies 1C-SoftClub and Snowball Studios report that the long-awaited military tactical simulator Combat Mission Afghanistan has gone gold. The game has been developed by Battlefront.com and Apeiron funded by Snowberry Connection, and is published by Snowball Studios in Eastern Europe, and Battlefront.com (worldwide). 

For the first time in the history of the genre-defining series of Combat Mission tactical wargames, a release is dedicated entirely to modern Russian warfare. Players will be able to look at the last war of the USSR through the eyes of a Russian officer and take part in more than 30 combat operations, based on real historical events. Players are able to take command of Soviet or DRA (Democratic Republic of Afghanistan) Army units as well as mujahedeen guerilla forces.

CM Afghanistan is a standalone game and does not require any of the other games to play. The game will be released in Russia on September 10th, 2010. Official Russian website: http://www.snowball.ru/afgan
