KEY HIGHLIGHTS

  • January 8, 2013 – UPS Worldwide Express Freight was rolled out globally for urgent, time-sensitive and high-value international heavyweight shipments. The new service enables customers to ship pallets over 70 kg with guaranteed day-definite transit times and door-to-door delivery service. 
  • October 24, 2012 – UPS continued its healthcare network expansion in Asia with the opening of healthcare facilities in Hangzhou and Shanghai in China and Sydney, Australia. The three facilities will provide reliable, flexible and compliant supply chain capabilities, crucial ingredients to support the growing need for healthcare logistics in the Asia Pacific region.
  • October 8, 2012 – UPS announced a new flight connecting Zhengzhou, China, to the rest of the world via Incheon, Korea. The new flight benefits customers in central northern China, an emerging economic region of importance, by reducing shipping times by at least one day.
  • February 29, 2012 – UPS announced the launch of the fifth generation handheld computer, the DIAD (Delivery Information Acquisition Device) V. The faster, smaller and lighter DIAD ensures UPS drivers provide better service to customers in a business environment which requires continuous information and total mobility.
  • November 23, 2011 - UPS launched UPS Temperature True®, its door-to-door cold chain transportation and monitoring service in Asia. Working closely with the industry and governmental regulating bodies, UPS also introduced PharmaPort™ 360, a specially-designed airfreight container for healthcare cold chain transportation.
  • October 31, 2011 – UPS announced the extension of the company’s mobile Web site, m.ups.com to customers in Asia (China, India, South Korea, Hong Kong, Singapore, Japan, Taiwan, Australia, Malaysia, Thailand, the Philippines and New Zealand) which allows customers mobile access to track packages, calculate shipping rates and find the nearest UPS location.
  • July 26, 2011 – UPS announced that it will begin operating new flights into Chengdu, China, further expanding the company’s connections between Asia, Europe and the United States. The “around-the-world” flight through Chengdu will originate in UPS’s European hub in Cologne, Germany, and make a stop in Warsaw before transiting Chengdu’s Shuangliu International Airport, China’s sixth largest cargo and passenger facility. It then will operate to UPS’s Asia hub in Shanghai.
  • June 28, 2011 – UPS and Merck announced that the companies have significantly broadened their existing distribution and logistics agreement to include aspects of Merck’s global supply chain around the world. The UPS-Merck collaboration began in 2003 with package transportation and delivery services in the United States. The agreement expanded over time to include North American distribution, warehousing and multi-modal transportation services. UPS will now provide these services in certain markets in Asia and Latin America, including China and Brazil. UPS is also providing transportation services in Europe.
  • May 25, 2011 – One year after it opened an ultra-modern air hub in Shenzhen, China, UPS announced the completion of a robust series of air lane enhancements that have dramatically improved service for customers throughout Asia. All told, the company has completed improvements to more than 100 intra-Asia lane pairs since it opened the Shenzhen hub last May. The enhancements include faster transit times on key lanes between India and the rest of Asia and between South Korea and other Asian destinations.
  • April 12, 2011 – UPS launched its first Asian hybrid-electric vehicle (HEV) in Hong Kong as part of UPS’s ongoing sustainability efforts around the world. Since their introduction into the global UPS fleet in 1998, HEVs have shown a 35 percent improvement in fuel economy over conventional vehicles. By the end of the year, Hong Kong will roll out another two HEVs, bringing the total to three. They will form UPS’s global green feet over 1,900 vehicles.
  • March 28, 2011 – UPS announced the launch of direct flights from Hong Kong to Europe, enabling the company to offer the widest next-day delivery coverage for both packages and heavy freight to Europe from Hong Kong. With the addition of four direct flights, UPS now offers a total of 11 flights from Hong Kong to Europe each week.  This gives companies in the region easier access and more options to conduct business with Europe.  Indeed, with these flights, UPS reaches more of Europe next day, guaranteed, than any logistics carrier.
  • February 22, 2011 – UPS announced the expansion of its UPS Preferred LCL (less-than-container-load) Ocean Freight service to 10 additional Asian ports. The service provides up to 40 percent faster port-to-door delivery to the United States for LCL shipments while still delivering the economic advantages of ocean freight. UPS is offering the Preferred LCL service to customers shipping to the United States from the Chinese ports of Shanghai, Shenzhen, Ningbo and Xiamen. The service will expand to origins in Busan, South Korea, and Taipei in March and to Bangkok, Thailand; Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam; Singapore, and Hong Kong in April.
  • October 26, 2010 – UPS announced the official opening of its UPS Shared Services Centre in Hefei, Anhui Province, aimed at enhancing its operations and customer experience. The 4,456-square-metre facility is the company’s largest shared services facility in the Asia Pacific region. The UPS Shared Services Centre in Hefei is located at Anhui Service Outsourcing Industrial Park, and is the first collaboration between UPS and Anhui Province. The facility consolidates key work processes and resources from UPS operations in China and other Asia Pacific countries, including accounts payable, key entry work, billing, payments and vendor maintenance.
  •  September 23, 2010 – UPS unveiled its new global advertising campaign in China, the United States, the United Kingdom, and Mexico. The campaign rolls out to the rest of Asia through pan-Asia media like CNN, Financial Times, Time and National Geographic. This marks the first time that UPS has a unified global advertising campaign. The creative elements of the campaign will include print, broadcast and digital media as well as some unique “out of home” activations. UPS also will use various social media channels to support the campaign (Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, upside) and in China (Youku and Weibo).
  •  July 23, 2010 – UPS launched UPS Import ControlSM, a new function that gives importers rather than exporters greater control over their inbound shipments. The new service reduces delays to the shipping process due to incorrect or incomplete documentation, and gives importers the ability to mask profit margins as they ship directly to end-customers.
  •  July 6, 2010 – UPS introduced its carbon neutral programme in the Asia Pacific region, including, Australia, China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Macau, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan and Thailand. UPS customers in those locations now have the option of paying a small fee to calculate and offset the impact of the carbon emissions associated with their shipments.
  •  June 4, 2010 - UPS launched in Japan a new ocean freight service to the United States that provides up to 6 days faster door delivery than other less-than-container-load (LCL) services on the market.
  •  June 3, 2010 – UPS has formed an alliance with PosLaju the leading Malaysian courier company and jointly launched PosLaju International Premium, a day-definite, international express delivery service with money-back guarantee serving over 215 countries. The new service is available at all 52 PosLaju outlets in Malaysia and will on average, shorten the international transit time of packages and documents by half.
  •  May 18, 2010 – UPS officially opened its Shenzhen Asia Pacific Hub at Shenzhen Baoan International Airport, aimed at accelerating the flow of customers; packages and heavy freight throughout the Asia Pacific region.
  •  May 11, 2010 – UPS and P&T Express have established UPS Vietnam as a joint stock company to expand UPS’s footprint and better serve customers in Vietnam.  Through the joint stock company, UPS will invest in new facilities in key commercial and industrial centers across Vietnam to widen access to growing intra-Asian capability and connect to the global UPS network.  UPS will extend its express pickup and delivery service to 63 provinces in Vietnam and offer later pick-up and cut-off times.
  •  May 5, 2010 – UPS announced it has formed a strategic alliance with AliExpress, a new online wholesale marketplace launched by Alibaba.com, the world’s largest small business e-commerce company. As “preferred logistics provider”, UPS provides convenient and reliable global service for the new online-wholesale platform.
  • February 8, 2010 – UPS launched its inaugural flights at the new UPS Shenzhen Asia Pacific Hub at Shenzhen Baoan International Airport. The flights mark the commencement of UPS’s intra-Asia air operations at the new hub and the transition of its intra-Asia hub operations from its former site in Clark, Philippines to Shenzhen, China.
  • January 13, 2010 – UPS announced plans to significantly increase its service parts logistics network in China by establishing 101 new field stocking locations (FSLs). The UPS FSL network expansion will cover 89 key cities across China, spanning more than 110 bonded and non-bonded FSLs.
  • December 16, 2009 – UPS signed a tripartite MOU with Shenzhen Entry-exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau (CIQ) and Shenzhen Airport Co., Ltd, on the cooperation guidelines. The MOU enables a full suite of services at UPS Shenzhen Intra Asia Hub, including preferential policies of inspection and quarantine in advance and 365 days - 24 hours service.

  • July 30, 2009 – UPS and Shenzhen Customs signed an MOU to seal the terms of the partnership. The MOU enables 24/7 customs clearance at the Hub and express cross-border clearance at the Hong Kong / Shenzhen highway port for UPS vehicles.
  • May 5, 2009 – UPS announced plans to boost its global post-sales service options by significantly expanding its field stocking location network in India and by establishing an Asia Post-Sales Customer Support in Clark, Philippines.
  • December 9, 2008 – UPS opened its US$125 UPS Shanghai International Hub, its largest international hub facility in Asia. The hub connects China to its international network 24/7 with Shanghai’s largest onsite customs inspection area that facilitates rapid handling of express packages and heavy freight. It also features an industry-first “Shipper Build Area” which allows customers to perform on-site packaging before goods are loaded onto the aircraft.
  • November 24, 2008 – UPS announced it has been named as the Official Logistics and Express Sponsor of the European Tour, one of the world’s most prestigious professional golf tours. In addition to providing critical transportation and logistical support for The Tour, UPS will also sponsor six events each year across Asia and Europe, including events in Hong Kong, Taiwan and Shanghai.
  • October 24, 2008 – UPS broke ground to begin construction of its intra-Asia hub at Shenzhen International Airport in China.
  • August 8, 2008 – UPS was the Official Logistics and Express Delivery Sponsor for the Beijing Olympics. Every logistical demand for the Games came through the Olympic Logistics Centre, a two-million-square-feet logistics and distribution hub managed by UPS. UPS also oversaw the preparation of all competition and non-competition venues of the games. By the end of the Beijing Olympics in September, UPS had delivered more than 19 million items for the games.
  • June 18, 2008 - UPS Korea becomes a UPS wholly-owned subsidiary when UPS acquired The Korea Express Co., Ltd's (KEC) interest in the UPS-KEC express joint venture company. UPS and KEC also signed a co-operation agreement for continued collaboration, which recognizes UPS’s global network and infrastructure and KEC’s local network and customs brokerage operations.
  • May 21, 2008 - UPS announced that its intra-Asia hub will be moved to Shenzhen by 2010. The repositioning will slash at least a day off shipment times-in-transit for Asian customers while offering a new level of service to the manufacturing region located just north of Shenzhen. The new cost-efficient hub represents an estimated investment of US$180 million.
  • January 2008 - UPS rolls out eight new products in 2008 for Asia Pacific - UPS Express Freight, UPS Air Freight Direct and UPS Air Freight Consolidated, UPS Paperless Invoice, UPS Returns, UPS Broker of Choice, UPS FTZ Facilitator and UPS Clinical Trials.
  • December 6, 2007 – UPS announced a strategic alliance with India’s leading local logistics player AFL. The partnership exponentially increases UPS access points for Indian customers by more than 200 locations.
  • October 26, 2007 – UPS and Staples established two new co-branded stores, Staples UPS Express in Beijing, China. The stores offer customers a convenient, one-stop location for office supplies, document services and international shipping needs.

  • September 13, 2007 – UPS was granted the authority to operate six daily flights between the U.S. and Nagoya, Japan, in addition to its daily service to Tokyo and Osaka. UPS will be able to connect these flights to its new air hub in Shanghai, China.
  • August 9, 2007 – UPS started the construction of the UPS International Air Hub in Shanghai.
  • July 24, 2007 – UPS added five flights in Korea to connect Korean businesses to major trading centres in China and Europe. With this flight expansion, UPS serves 31 weekly flights into and out of Korea and is the foreign regular air carrier to offer the highest number of flight frequencies to Korea.
  • July 2007 – UPS launched five additional ‘Around the World’ flights per week to connect Singapore and Bangkok to major trading markets in Europe, the Middle East and the United States.
  • June 25, 2007 - UPS opened the Olympics Logistics Centre, the first operational facility of the 2008 Beijing Games, operated and managed by UPS on behalf of the Beijing Organising Committee for the Olympic Games (BOCOG).
  • May 2007 – UPS opened a new operations centre in Tirupur to meet growing demand for its services in South India. The 2,300-square-feet facility has an expanded package sorting capacity and provides convenient access for factories to export their products globally.
  • April 12, 2007 – Signing ceremony between UPS and the Shanghai Airport Authority for the first-ever U.S. Air Hub in China at Pudong International Airport in 2008.
  • January 1, 2007 – UPS introduced three daily time-definite delivery options. The new services provide customers with more flexibility on lanes between the U.S. and Asia, Europe and the Americas, giving businesses three time-of-day delivery options in 30 of the world’s most active trading markets.
  • November 2, 2006 – UPS announced the launch of UPS Trade Direct inbound service to Japan from 30 origin countries in Asia, North America and Europe.
  • August 2, 2006 – UPS opens two UPS Express retail outlets in Shanghai, China. The announcement marks the opening of the first UPS retail outlets in China.
  • June 6, 2006 – UPS and BOCOG signed an MOU outlining the logistics and express delivery service UPS will provide for the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games.
  • April 6, 2006 – UPS announced the start of direct air service from Shanghai to Europe along with the addition of three new flights connecting Shanghai to the U.S. and another new flight between Qingdao and Incheon, Korea. The airline’s growth is part of a broader effort to accelerate global trade and offer new service options to customers.
  • April 3, 2006 – UPS announced its alliance with Hong Kong Disneyland, making UPS the Official Express Delivery Sponsor of the theme park. Under this agreement, UPS will offer shipping service to customers and employees of the park.
  • September 1, 2005 - UPS took direct control of its international express operations in Suzhou, Kunshan, Changzhou, Wuxi, Ningbo, Wenzhou, Zhongshan, Dongguan and Foshan.
  • July 28, 2005 – UPS signed an agreement with BOCOG as the Official Logistics and Express Delivery Sponsor of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games.

  • July 25, 2005 – UPS launched direct flights from Qingdao to Seoul to provide greater connectivity for businesses in Shandong Province and North China by directly connecting Qingdao to Incheon, South Korea, and to UPS’s global network including the U.S., Europe and UPS’s intra-Asia hub in the Philippines.
  • July 10, 2005 - UPS begins a direct service between Shanghai and Japan which flies Shanghai – Osaka – Anchorage five times a week and Shanghai – Tokyo six times a week.
  • July 7, 2005 – UPS China signs an MOU with Shanghai Airport Group which will lead to the establishment of the UPS International Air Hub at Pudong International Airport in 2007.
  • July 7, 2005 – UPS China introduced domestic express services in China which will be offered to select customers on a contractual basis.
  • April 6, 2005 – UPS Japan announced its acquisition of the minority shareholding of its joint-venture partner Suzuyo & Co., Ltd.
  • April 6, 2005 – UPS China announced the launch of six weekly flights from the U.S. to Guangzhou, China. UPS is the first express and cargo carrier to offer non-stop flights between Guangzhou and the U.S.
  • February 1, 2005 – UPS officially took direct control of its international express operations from its partner Sinotrans in Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Tianjin and Qingdao.
  • December 2004 – UPS announced the acquisition of Menlo Worldwide Forwarding, Inc., to complement its ability to manage shipments of any size, anywhere and in virtually any time frame.
  • December 2004 – UPS announced its plan to acquire direct control of its international express operations from its partner Sinotrans in 23 locations across China covering over 200 cities.
  • November 2004 – UPS launched 12 new US-China flights, tripling UPS’s service from six to 18 flights a week.
  • April 2, 2004 – UPS was awarded by the U.S. Department of Transportation the authority to operate six additional flights between Hong Kong and its intra-Asia air hub in the Philippines, via Singapore, expanding capacity between three important trade markets.
  • April 1, 2004 – UPS began its operations as a wholly-owned company in Japan after it acquired the minority shareholding of its joint venture partner in Japan, Yamato Transport Co.
